one of the oddities of Richard's career. never understood why PE didn't have a backup they could run. But always grateful that D.K. worked it out so Richard could still run.

IN OCT OF '86 WHEN RICHARD DID THIS DEAL WITH D.K., YOU COULDN'T PULL OUT A BACKUP CAR FOR A CAR THAT WAS ALREADY QUALIFIED. (NOBODY BROUGHT BACKUPS TO THE RACETRACK THEN) . RICHARD WRECKED IN THE SATURDAY AFTERNOON PRACTICE. HE WAS KNOCKED OUT IN THE WRECK. THEY STRUCK A DEAL WITH D.K. THAT AFTERNOON. THEY PULLED THE ENGINE/TRANS, SPRINGS AND SHOCKS FROM THE WRECKED 43 AND PUT EM ON D.K.'S CAR. DON'T REMEMBER WHERE HE FINISHED THAT AFTERNOON, BUT OLE' D.K. GRINNED ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.
