to those who know, which was better the paved or the dirt? thought the track was going to come back a couple of years ago as a racing park with a hotel, restaurants and other assets but the economy went south and the new owner balked. I worked as a maintenance man at the Fairgrounds. we maintained the track but the Fairgrounds known as metrolina Expo has two big Antique flea markets that vendors from all across the country attend and many camped out at the midway area in the rear section outside of turns 1-2. they began complaining about the noise and dust. the flea market brought in piles of cash and Linda decided the races had to go. since then, she has sold the track to and remains to be seen if it will ever reemerge. I live only a few blocks from there so always keep an eye open for any movement.
