I was with neil (soap) when we had a dirt race at Hickory speedway one night. after the race, we loaded up, hooked up the tow bar and rolled out of the track headed home to Charlotte. shortly afterward we saw Roy Tyner pulled over on the shoulder so we pulled over behind him. the rear end had come out of roy's tow car a 54 chrystler duplex (doors in the front and doors in the back). well, roy said he had a spare back at his garage in Red Springs so we unhooked the tow bar. me, Roy and Neil and neil's wifeheaded off to Red Springs. drove most of the night to get there. Roy went into his garage, picked up a gear and put it in the trunk. Neil had a 56 cadilac with a 59 eldorado engine, cam, and two 4 barrels. well back to Hickory.... long drive later we arrived back at the car. we ate vienna sausage with crackers and pepsi's while roy pulled the gear out of the old chrysler. it was a hot sweaty day and as roy picked up the gear to put back in the chrystler, hefound he had picked up the wrong gear. back to red springs we went. got the right gear and back to Hickory. finally got everything assembled and got Roy back on the home run. no charge mind you, that's how racers work.
