Red Vogt - Racing History

CodyLast time, we talked about Red Vogt up to his 1949 NASCAR Strictly Stock Championship with Red Byron and Fonty Flock's 1949 NASCAR Modified Championship.

For 1950, Red Byron was beginning to not win - for the first time in 10 years, winless. The team had a really good shot at winning the inaugural Southern 500 at Darlington. And for the months leading up to Labor Day, many were not sure if Darlington would even be ready to race on. Track owner and promoter, Harold Brasington, scrambled to lay asphalt in the closing days and weeks for the big Labor Day event. Raymond Parks had put the #22 Oldsmobile out of commission for the race and bought for Byron, a brand new Cadillac two-door sedan. Parks' new racecar was identical to Raymond's personal car - A Cadillac Series 62. He drove it from Capital Cadillac straight to Vogt's Spring Street shop where Vogt would install all necessary speed parts to give Byron the winning car.
