A 40-watt light bulb? Not really. But looking back on the days of my youth at the many tracks where I attended races on Thursday nights, Friday nights and Saturday nights, it sure seemed as though those bulbs high on the wooden light poles, always in the infield, were not more than 60 watts at best. I remember my first race as a driver, on August 21, 1969, at what is now The Historic Columbia Speedway, was run under those dim lights, in a cloud of rising dust. Funny, now, how it seems those lights were as bright as the sun back then.
