"The Swamp Rat Was Here!" Don Garlits was involved in a fiery crash with his 'Swamp Rat' dragster at Capitol Raceway in mid 1965 (which almost ended his driving career). While trying to get stopped after the car's motor blew up, and unable to see where he was going because of oil on his goggles, he ran into the back of the "Frantic Four" car that Ron Goodsell was driving. Garlits eventually recovered from his injuries, and continued to drive various other Swamp Rats successfully for many more years. (Fortunately, Goodsell was uninjured, and his car repaired, allowing him to continue on with his East Coast tour that summer.)
