Steve was having one of his best years either leading in the points or being second in points. He was injured in an accident while watching a sprint car race at Ventura Speedway whick destroyed his knee. The car came through the turn one fense and was heading for his stepson and another child. He threw himself between the kids and the fence to protect them.
