Okay we are getting ready for Sandy to come our way here on the NC coast. Just want to tell all who will be in her path, to be careful. We are a family and concerned about everyone's safety. Will be interesting to see how this might affect Martinsville. Take care and pray for one another......love ya'll....

Still time to go to the nearest Wal*Mart and buy every bottle of water, gallon of milk, and loaf of bread.........THEN RUSH to the nearest HOME DEPOT and buy every sheet of plywood they got. With any luck, Jim Cantore will soon be here to stand on the beach, surf in background, stop-lights swaying in 'tropical storm force winds', and report on the severity of the situation.

Okay...Bopper....don't rain on my hurricane!! LOL I am liken to Larry McReynolds when it comes to watching the Weather Channel...LOL It's time to cook....pots of STUFF....and keep watching to get those "Local on the Eights" Kinda like getting ready for company to come. And I guess, I COULD MAKE room for Jim...should he need somewhere to stay....LOL! Good time for finding things that wash up though...don't you let this thing come and bite the Rev in the butt!!

Yup, PKL, I've lived on the Carolina coast all my life, never left for a hurricane, either. Speaking of the Weather Channel/Tropical Update......ever notice that it's sponsored by the HOME DEPOT? Ol' Jim came to Wrightsville Beach so often, instead of spray painting "Hugo Go Away" on the plywood-ed windows...........they were painting "Jim Cantore go home" LOL!

Speaking of Martinsville and hurricanes,HUGO made landfall at Charleston an ripped through Charlotte and central NC Martinsville week of 1989. The media went into total hysteria when Jimmy "hurricane Hugo" Hensley substituted and qualified Dale's car on the pole, while Dale was cleaning up debris in NC. Like Jimmy Hensley didn't know how to get around M'ville!

Actually did not run into town..Mama, can you believe when I went out to go to the eye doctor yesterday....had a flat tire? So, flat tire on the truck...power steering still out on the van. So my dear friend and her husband came and spent the night with me last night..so she took me to Shallotte today. I sure will be glad to get this eye situation over...LOL

Don't forget to clean out the TP supply, too.

Y'all stay safe and don't indulge in any of those stupid Weather Channel stunts you describe.

Managed to get enough trees cut out of our Charlotte driveway to catch Jimmy on the pole. While in Martinsville, I bought all the styrofoam coolers that would fit in my car and loaded them with ice for the trip back to Charlotte. We had no power at my house for 13 days.

true patty. but the facts are i will need it eventually, and it was a nice day to do it..and being the plow tractor it sees a fair amount of abuse ( somehow it ends up broken by end of winter),, every year i break it somehow, then in fall i make what i broke stronger..thank god for my welder..lol

Patsy .. Tim too, your prayers are more than appreciated here on the coast of Joisey. Not looking good here at all as they have already declared a mandatory evacuation of Cape May as of Sunday at 2 pm. This is one time that I can truly say that I don't like living oncoastal waters.

I will, however, stay put. There is no place like home and to top it off, I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday.

Day before yesterday, there were at least 20 boats in my lagoon .. today, only 6. Time to go out and rachet down the Sea Doo's and get the grill tied up.

Absolutely Barb! Albeit sadly, I have to agree with you. I believe it will be bad up your way. We are a small beach, but they say there are 100's of surfers out. I can't even imagine what it might be up there in awhile....please keep us posted, and know you ARE in our thoughts and prayers......

Didn't you folks get snow for Halloween last year?

Looking at the latest forecasts, they think it will turn West much earlier than had been indicated earlier today. Looks like it's going to miss NYC and New England and barrel directly into Delmarva. I think they're over-hyping things a bit now, but it likely will be a bad Category 2 storm. I remember when I lived in Connecticut that all of the frightful hurricane forecasts were just bluster to get you to watch the 11 o'clock news. There hasn't been a bad one up there since 1955.

Hasn't starting raining yet, but the wind has been increasing since last night. With the increased wind, the water has backed up and you would now have to step up to get on the floater (where you'd tie the boat to if I still had one). Running along side of my property there is a drainage pipe from the street to the lagoon and with the water that high there is a nice pond in the middle of the street.

Another member of the drag racingboard came down yesterday and boarded up 2 sets of 8 foot sliding glass doors, rachet tied my2 Sea Doo's to their lifts, rachet tied the grill to the deck, moved the patio table to one of my sheds and took the Sea Doo trailer with him back to Pennsylvania .. it's in dire need of repairs (it'sonly been used 3 times since brand new).

Will try to take some pictures and post more later (as long as we still have power).

Welp, the old biddy reared her ugly head again today, this time in the form of a nor'easter. Had winds in the 30+ mph range, rain, sleet and to top it off about 3.5 inches of heavy wet snow. Have been without power most of the evening. When it finally came back I turned on Fox 29 news and LMAO!!!! The picture I posted of the neighbor's boat on their Lincoln and the one of my street made the news and I didn't send it.

The good news is .. we'll all be sick next week .. temps are gonna be up towards 70 by the weekend :-p
