Well, another confusing selection to NASCAR HOF

Tim Flock

Maurice Petty

Dale Jarrett

Jack Ingram

Fireball Roberts

Tim Flock - AGREED

Chief - Really thought he'd have to wait another couple of years. Though as a Petty fan, I'm elated about his selection.

DJ??? One day - but not now.

With Tim Flock getting in, Joe Weatherly should have gone in as well. Their records (and championships) were very similar.

Fireball was a popular choice and has been for some time. But I think Lorenzen should have gone in before him.

Ingram - I'm OK with it - just not as excited. I realize its a NASCAR HOF vs. Cup/GN. But still.

The one I just can't absorb is Jarrett. But I've heard the King himself say they can't just vote in dead guys each year. Maybe so. I don't know. DJ is indeed NHOF worthy. I just think its too soon when so many other deserving ones are still on the table.

I once made the extremely embarassing mistake of saying to Ned that I didn't think DJ could ever cut it in Cup - must have been around the same time Ernie Irvan was saying the same thing to Robert Yates. Amazing how gracious "Gentleman Ned" was when I said that. I was very wrong and wish I'd never made the statement. But, HOF? Not by me.

I saw 4-5 of my hometown Richmond boys beat Ingram most every time they ever raced heads up in the same LMS events, so I have a big problem with that selection, also.

The other three are certainly worthy candidates.

Those are my opinions. Most of us have one, but they didn't ask me to nominate or vote.

Congratulations to all the new inductees. Just got to say Congratulations to Frances Flock, her hard work has finally paid off, she has been tireless in her promotion of her husband.

Personally, I think Jarrett's success had MORE to do with the rides he was in than it did his talent. How many seasons did he languish in the Sportsman/Busch Series before he got called to Cup? In a lot of ways- his career path is VERY similar to Jimmie Johnson, who was at best a slightly above average Busch Series driver coming up. And let's face it- Jarrett's start in Cup was nothing to brag about. He didn't exactly set the world on fire driving for Mike Curb, Eric Freedlander, Hoss Ellington, or Cale Yarborough before he got a lucky break when Neil Bonnett got injured and he landed the Wood Brothers ride. As a matter of fact, you COULD easily argue his longtime car owner Robert Yates deserved to get nominated, not to mention elected BEFORE the name Dale Jarrett ever came up. All I will say is based on voting history and precedent, Bill Elliott BETTER be first ballot elected, or else this Georgia boy is gonna be pretty fired up.

I hoped Fred Lorenzen would get in this time. All are deserving and I would have a hard time removing any of the newly selected inductees to make room for Mr Lorenzen but I do think he should be in this year.

And yet Smokey Yunick, John Holman and Ralph Moody are not even nominated.

I disagree with Robbie. I think the majority of judges are qualified to make the decisions and are steeped in the history of the sport. However, I think the Nominating Committee is seriously flawed. I think that most agree the real problem is the limited number of people voted in each year. They have a lot of time to make up for and five is too few. At minimum it should have been ten inductees for the first ten years or possibly the 50 Greatest Drivers that were chosen during the 50th anniversary. The one thing that I think they are doing right is that they aren't restricting nominations to only Grand National and they are actually voting in people from lesser series.

I don't think I would have voted for Jarrett nor do I think I would have chosen Rusty Wallace. As I grew older, I held many less drivers in awe. The names that immediately stand out in my mind are Earnhardt, Elliott, Gordon and Johnson. Given fifteen minutes I could probably come up with four more but I think that HOF inductees should be truly exceptional. Mark Martin would make it because he's remained competitive for so long and since he never won a championship it's a sentimental vote too. Tony Stewart because of all he's accomplished in so many series even though his NASCAR record is hit-or-miss. Alan Kulwicki because of one season where he pulled off the impossible. Heck, I'd even vote in Kenny Schrader because he's involved the sport for more than just owning a multi-million dollar house on Lake Norman. All of these guys are true racers. Dale Jarrett would have been just as happy as a professional golfer.

Given all that he has written about the Frances in his book, it's a safe bet that Smokey will never get nominated.

As anticipated, I don't agree with all of the selections but, as Dave said, I'm not asked to nominate or vote. I do know that I called Frances Flock last night to congratulate her and the sound of the joy in her voice was worth billions. I'm so happy for her and for Tim.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

At 21%, Tim Flock has the highest winning percentage in all of NASCAR . If theres was ever deserving candidate, Tim is it. Congratulations to the Flock family!

Fireball made it, Smith and France didn't make it, so it could have been worse. Personally think that elite division past champs White, Isaac, Weatherly, and Parsons should be automatic entries. Of course, my opinion means absolutely nothing.

Ken S. does not qualify. He is still active. you must be out of the sport for 3 years.

Let' not forget Raymond Parks. There might not have been a NASCAR if not for Mr. Parks money.
