Longtime NASCAR Broadcaster Eli Gold Resigns From MRN Radio

Current NASCAR

MRN without Ken Squier, Barney Hall, Eli Gold, Mike Joy, and Dick Brooks anymore is almost unthinkable. It's like comparing the CBS and ESPN booths of the 1980s with today's Fox coverage of NASCAR- it DOESN'T compare because one is light years ahead of the other. Now I understand that not everyone is the sharpest knife in the drawer that happens to call in to a racing show, but I don't ever remember Eli Gold talking condescendingly to a caller like Dave Moody likes to do to his audience on SIrius/XM Channel 90. The guy is a borderline tool with his antics!

Somebody has some SEVERE psychological issues

Current NASCAR

Just remember that Buckshot Jones was tenfold more successful than the collective total of humanity in that discussion.

WHO WON AT KENTUCKY

Current NASCAR

I think I figured out who DIDN'T win this weekend, and that was the Chevy teams. Rest assured NASCAR won't leave that package on the cars for very long, because as much as they want to brag on 2,600 passes throughout the race, I'll bet 2,100 of them were other brands passing Chevies.

Buddy Baker

Current NASCAR

Everyone keep Buddy in your thoughts and prayers, as he announced tonight he was stepping away from Sirius/XM Nascar Radio because he is battling lung cancer.

Atlanta Motor Speedway

Stock Car Racing History

Never should've reconfigured the track in the first place.

Still waiting for someone to explain to me HOW you go from having two race dates (including the season finale) to giving up the finale, to moving that date to October in the Chase, to moving that date to Labor Day and OUT of the Chase, to losing a date, to moving the Labor Day date BACK to the same crummy spring date on the schedule?

Oh, wait. Bruton Smith knows what he's doing, right? Another year or two and I guess they can finally turn AMS into a lake. And please don't put AIR and AMS in the same sentence- Bruton Smith and Ed Clark havesingle handedly killed racing in the Atlanta market.

Paging Mr. Fulton

Stock Car Racing History

I've got the complete season, but it's not in the Rockingham issue- I just looked. I'll peruse the rest of them and double check just to be sure, and worst case if I find it I will scan it in for you.

Brian Vickers

General

I wish it was Regan Smith. That guy deserves another shot at Cup. Besides that, until Darrell Wallace signed with Roush to run the Xfinity Series,he was Toyota's number one driver in their farm system. I suspect Michael will drive the car in the 500, and they'll find someone else to fill in until Vickers comes back. I think an interesting driver for that car could be David Ragan...IF he's willing to leave his Ford ties.

Buddy had Red Baron sponsorship in '88. Crisco moved back to him in 1989 after they spent 1988 on Bud Moore's #15.
