Dale Earnhardt Jr said that Jimmie Johnson - knocking on the door of a 4th NASASR Championship - was just as good as Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty and David Pearson."You definitely have to put him there in with my father, Richard and David Pearson, and all them guys," Dale Earnhardt Jr said.Do you agree with Junior? Does Jimmie Johnson belong in the same class as Dale Earnhardt?

Heck no, Jimmie Johnson don't take many risks, he lays back most the time until the last 20 laps then he moves up. He's more like David Pearson than Dale Earnhardt. If anyone IMO, is like Dale is Kyle Busch except his whining attitude.

Any comparison of drivers is usually futile because of many variables. Dale drove a completely different car under completely different rules against completely different competition. Even comparing Jimmie to the rest of today's field is subjective-How well are the engines built? How solid are the pit stratagies? All contribute to the final numbers.Example-I think the best pure driving talent out there now is Montoya. Of the stockcar only drivers, Martin and Gordon. So why is Jimmie the one with the crowns? The large part is Chad, however I don't think Jimmie would be as good with another chief, nor do I think Chad could do it as well with another driver. It's the magic combo that makes it all come together.

I want to know what Jr. had been drinking at the time he said that. Sound as it was scripted from Rick Hendrick himself for Jr. to say that. As I have said many many times before. Jimmie is a great driver but only reason he has won presumably 4 championships in a row is because of that point system that was implemented when Winston left the sport. The day he can go out there and race without a spotter, without power steering, without cool suits, etc. etc. etc. and still win like he has been. Then he can be put up there with Richard Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt, etc. I know he will never get the chance to do that but still. Todays Nascar is always finding ways to dumb down the accomplishments of our drivers of the past. Thats why I no longer watch the races today. They are the most boring races ever. And to call them races is stretching that. More like a Sunday ride around.

This one ought to bring em out...lol. I don't think it is possible...certainly not fair to try to compare drivers from different eras. But....given the playing field he is on....is he is as good compared to the rest of today's drivers as Dale was compared to the rest he competed with....probably so. Does that make sense,...? I don't think because he wins 4 straight that makes him better than Cale. Granted he will have a better record....but records are.... an have always been subjective.

Si Senor But maybe he can park your car at Taco Bell OK?? Robbie Solesbee said:
Jimmy Johnson isn't worthy enough to be a lot boy at Cale's Honda dealership.
