The number on Ronnie's car that day still puzzle me. The 42 is clearly the same font run by Petty Enterprises for Kyle's car from 1979 thru 1982. I've reached out to a couple of folks who knew a bit about PE in that era. Neither could recall the Pettys selling cars or parts to Ronnie and Jabe. Doesn't mean it didn't happen though. I've not seen pics from any other race where Ronnie ran that style 42. In this particular race, 42 was available because Kyle was racing Hoss Ellington's #1 UNO/STP car.
