This Herman Beam car was headed to the September 1964 Capital City 300 at Richmond with Larry Thomas driving. Sponsor for the car was Richmond, Virginia's famed Mallory's Speed Shop , run by Sonny Mallory "The Round Man with the Square Deal!"

Here's what's left of the convertedMallory's Speed Shop building on North Boulevard in Richmond, sponsor of the Herman Beam / Larry Thomas car in the photo. In 1973, Mallory's Speed Shop sponsorship could be found on the quarter panels of the Chevelle #54 driven by Winston Cup Rookie of the Year, Bill Dennis, also from Richmond (Glen Allen). At the back of Mallory's Speed Shop was the equally famed Hoehns & Eanes (H&E) Automotive machine shop and garage (it later moved to Chamberlayne Ave. ) that turned out the power plants for the Sonny Hutchins driven Emanuel Zervakis cars, among others. Today a McDonald's burger joint sits where horsepower, not cowpower once ruled. It was a Hoehns & Eanes powerplant under the hood of Sonny Hutchins' Zervakis Monte Carlo thatoutdragged Richard Petty to turn 1 at Martinsville and led for 70+ laps!
