From the July 29 ^th Richmond County Journal;  Bill Bostick of Ellerbe, N.C. gunned his sportsman car into the winners circle in the sportsman division Saturday night in a race that saw four drivers leading the thirty lap race. Bob Webb, Walson Gardner and Troy Edwards were leading the pack at different intervals during the race. Bostick was followed by Troy Edwards and Light Isom, both of Staley, N.C.. Buck Covington of Hamlet, N.C. wrapped up the sportsman heat race.

            John Robert Stogner won the wreck-filled amateur feature race, which marks his second straight win. Harold Carmac of Ramseur led for several laps in his Chevrolet coupe and finally finished second to Stogner.

            Edward Peele of Laurinburg finished first in the stock Rookie race driving a Plymouth coach.

            No injuries were incurred in Saturday nights race even though at least four cars turned over and several were in smash-ups.
