Our girl is gone

I'd put my money on Ronda!!! Ronda McKnight said:
OK guys I have stayed out of this "Danica" talk for a while but I cant stay silent anymore. All I have to say is put me and Danica in identical 37 ford flatheads on the track at any short track in the area and we would she how much of a driver she is. She may wipe the track with me but it would be a very interesting race for sure. I'm not saying that I am that great of a driver, but I had to do things old school, not with my looks or my families money. I truly enjoy what I do and would never use the fact that I am a woman driver to try to get anywhere. Class is something that you can not buy!

This could be the beginning of the end for her...she is actually taking quite a risk.Pete, I think they should race peddle cars first...this way Danica would have a chance.

Historic Columbia Speedway

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

John,We would love to have you join in our efforts. We established a local RacersReunion chapter there to help coordinate our efforts. That chapter is called Team South Carolina Midlands (TSCM). Tim Leeming is head of it. They meet monthly and we have an event coordination team that meets twice a month beginning in Jan to focus on all the aspects of the April Love Chevrolet Columbia Speedway RacersReunion. I'm sure the tractor will come in handy. We have also formed the Columbia Speedway Marketing Group that consists of John Banks, Bobby Sellers, and myself that is focussed on recruiting other events to the speedway....as well as improvements. We've already spent well over $100,000.00 dollars and have had folks volunteer equipment and time that equals that much more. This is a very important project and has a very passionate group dedicated to making it happen. We would love to be able to point the HistoricColumbiaSpeedway.com domain to our site once we have it developed. Funds for that development will be available after the Jan 1.Thanks very much for your interest. I look forward to meeting you.Jeff John Brewer said:
Thanks for the info Jeff, I would love to assist in any way that I can!! Money seems to be a little tight these days so my time is all I can give you, lol. I have an old ford 3000 deisel tractor that can be used and I'm just across the street from the speedway. Let me know if I should remove my site www.historiccolumbiaspeedway.com
I do not want to cause any problems for anyone!
Thanks again, Ed Brewer

Historic Columbia Speedway

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

John,We have entered into a long-term agreement with the ownership of Columbia Speedway to create an events facility there to serve the Cayce and surrounding communities. ColumbiaSpeedway.com is our domain and will be the "official" site for information regarding Historic Columbia Speedway. That site is scheduled to be constructed early next year.Historic Columbia Speedway will be brought back to "race-like" condition through sponsorships, grants, and donations. Improvements will include a 40 acre walk-of-fame park behind the speedway...and hopefully a museum. If you would like to be involved in some way, we are always looking for assistance....and money.Jeff Gilder

1966 Modified Champion Ernie Gahan - RIP ...posted by Jack Walker

Uncategorized

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. Ernie Gahan, the 1966 NASCAR Modified national champion, passed away Thursday night at his home in Cranberry Isles, Maine at the age of 83.Gahan, originally from Dover, N.H., got his start in auto racing at his hometown track Dover Speedway in 1948 after serving more than two years as an Army military policeman in Germany following Word War II. After getting his start at Dover , Gahan competed in the NASCAR Sportsman division until 1965, when he moved over to Modifieds.Gahan compiled 6,560 points during his 1966 run to the title to distance himself from runner-up Bugs Stevens and third place Ray Hendrick. Driving a 1936 Chevrolet coupe, Gahan won 15 of the 71 races he entered that season, but led Hendrick by just 48 points heading into the season finale in Atlanta, Ga. Hendrick was caught up in an early race accident and Gahan crossed the line 10th to earn the crown.Gahan made 11 starts in what is now known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from 1960-66. He was bestowed the Buddy Shuman Award for outstanding contributions to NASCAR following an incident in which he helped Tiny Lund rescue Marvin Panch from a fiery crash prior to the 1963 Daytona 500.Winner of an estimated 300-plus races during his nearly three decades as a racer, Gahan was a member of the inaugural New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame in 1998 and was a 1990 New York State Stock Car Association Hall of Fame inductee. Additionally, he is a member of the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame and Beach Ridge Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.Gahan was in attendance at the 2007 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Awards Banquet as many of the NASCAR Modified champions gathered to kick-off the celebration of 60 Years of Modified Champions. He was honored for his 1966 title at the 2008 Spring Sizzler at Stafford .Arrangements are pending and will be made available at a later time.(Roland Via Reporting from NASCAR PR original report)
