Lennie Pond car # 93 NASCAR Late Model Sportsman race 1968
Stock Car Racing History
He is still there. We interviewed him not too long ago.

I saw my first race at Sportsman Speedway in Johnson City , TN at the age of 5. But, my favorite was Volunteer Speedway (The Gap) in bulls Gap, TN. "The Gap" is a half-mike clay oval with 33...or 36 degree banking....wide and fast! Still produces some of the best short-track racing around.
I am very saddened to report the death of RacersReunion member and wife of the late Tiny Lund, Wanda Lund. I was just now informed Wanda died last night as the result of a gunshot wound. There are few other details at this time.
The only ingress and egressissues I've ever had was getting out of Peanut Turmans's modified. I somehow managed to get in through the normal window entry...but couldn't exit the same. Had to squeeze through the rear window...in front of a crowd of cheering on-lookers.
Not as bad as our Legend, though. At a press conference in Columbia, he entered a Tony Stewart show car and had the mayor requesting the jaws of life for what she thought would be emergency extrication.
As you can tell by the video below, she had no problems.
One of the advantages to getting older is experiencing first-hand some of the things older folks have told us over the years. One of my favorites..."what goes around, comes around".
Got me to thinking about back when I went to my first Bristol race...had plenty of seat room, As time when on, either the folks got bigger or the seats got smaller. The other day someone posted about a track reducing seating capacity and creating larger seats...just in time for our (at least mine) larger seating requirements...but I probably won't be using them anytime soon, but it's nice to know there would/could be room for my big butt.
Anybody else got any..."goes around, comes around" examples. Or better yet..predictions of things to come.
I love hearing Wally, Gordy, Greg, George and their gang recall the memories. Would love to have been along for what I feel was a great ride.
Now that I think about it...it would be better stated..."We don't claim to be going back to our roots...we never left!"
For all you "early" Sunday morning risers. We have a new program on Shag City USA. It is called The Gospel Train with Joey Warren. The Gospel Train, playing a "Carolina Beach Music" Gospel selection, airs from 7 AM to 9 Am every Sunday morning.

Best of luck! We will support your efforts and give you plenty of "air time" on our radio programs to help you get out the message.
As for the history...I'm sure there are some here who can contribute once they find this post.
