WC Bell

Stock Car Racing History

While practicing his car for "Bell & Bell Night" at Myrtle Beach Speedway, Mr. Bell experienced a medical condition, which resulted in some contact with the inside pit-wall. He was transported to Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach where his condition is being monitored, and evaluated. Please keep the Mr. Bell and his family in prayer.

Rockingham isn't looking so good

Stock Car Racing History

I know the track has been idle for a couple years, but the 'growth' in the infield-tri-oval area looks suspect.......especially when compared to the rest of the infield.

PENNSBORO SPEEDWAY (Almost Heaven West Virginia)

Administrative

Tim, I'm looking forward to Tuesday's program with Steve Burnside documenting the Pennsboro Reunion effort. As has been described, Pennsboro is one of those special and iconic places of stock car racing....the drama that played on that stage is on par with any track, anywhere....AND it all happened largely under the national radar. Against all odds and conventional wisdom, Pennsboro Speedway and promoter Carl Short effectively established the course of modern dirt late model racing, major promoting, in general. Pennsboro is the stuff of legend and folklore.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Current NASCAR

Welcome to the "official" story line of what's left of the 2015 NASCAR season............the intrigue of Kyle Busch making the CHASE. Yawn.

'Plate Racing

Current NASCAR

NASCAR's hell-bent 'plate mentality is headed for the ultimate tragedy; the catch fence can't keep the car(s) out of the stands, forever. Then, the talking heads will go ballistic..........and EVERY form of racing will be branded and affected. Track-insurance will sky-rocket.

Electricity!

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

Not sure if Jimmy Rumley is related, but LeeRoy is Kevin's father. The family has a very extensive racing background. Kevin Rumley is lead engineer for LongHorn/Labonte Chassis and is usually given the lion's share of the credit for the chassis' success. Their #6 K&L Rumley Enterprises Super Late Model, with Jonathan Davenport (driving) currently leads the LUCAS Oil series point standings. Prior to last Saturday's event at Smokey Mountain, the team had realed-off 9 consecutive dirt late model victories, including the $100K-to-win Eldora 'Dream'.

Electricity!

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

The LUCAS Oil Dirt Late Model Series kicked off a three-night-Thursday-Friday-Saturday extravaganza through Fayetteville, NC, Gaffney, SC, and Maryville, TN over the weekend of June 18-20. I was able to attend the Fayetteville event and had to wait, in line, at the ticket booth, in a drizzling rain....AND it was a Thursday night with temps still in the high 90's. Fortunately the rain stopped, and the place was absolutely packed. Fans galore, and the electricity in the air was real....the stars and cars of the LUCAS oil series were in the house........Bloomquist, Davenport, Pearson, and were set to do battle with North Carolina's own Chris Ferguson (wheeling a North Carolina based Long Horn chassis, courtesy of Terry and Bobby Labonte). and a host of others. With lightening flashing the field set sail for the 50 lap event with Justin Labonte on the pole........eventually Kevin & LeRoy Rumley's Greensboro based, #6 Longhorn wheeled by Blairsville, Ga's Jonathan Davenport collected his 8 straight victory. Fayetteville, NC, Gaffney, SC, and Maryville, TN all sound familiar, as they should. All boast of long and impressive racing backgrounds, and all were once staples of the various NASCAR circuits......Not anymore. Times have changed.
