Mothers Day is coming May 9th--but also it is--------------

Stock Car Racing History

Though Jeff is not a mother the website he created (with the inspiration by Paul Lewis) is the Mother-of-all-vintage-racing sites and for that I'll say "Happy Mother's Day" to RacersReunion.comother!

"I won and all I got was a watermelon!"

General

Was talking to a current driver in a lower class racing series, the U-CAR class, and if you haven't heard of it the class it basically as close to traditional stock car racing as there is, the cars are your average street car, stripped interior, roll cage added, and maybe a racing seat if the driver can afford one and raced on DOT tires only. No performance parts or alterations are allowed.

So back to the story... This fella, I'll call Pine Cone, was telling me about his recent win at a nearby dirt track where upon winning in the UCAR class he pulled into the Winner's Circle, surrounded by crew, family and friends, the track photographer ready to take some shots of the winner and his trophy. As it turns out the track was fresh out of trophies for the 1st place star so, instead of giving Pine Cone a trophy, they gave him a nice big ripe watermelon. Boy, was he shocked to win such a prestigious prize and it wasn't even seedless.

Does anyone else have a story of winning anything other than a big shiny trophy in the winner's circle?

Louise Smith films or films from her era.

Stock Car Racing History

The best advice I have is get as many photos of Louise as possible and a do a slide show presentation. Haven't heard of any footage of Louise.

What is your opinion of the Talladega 2-car hookup?

General

Although know one could predicted the winner, we could all predict the 2-car breakaway and the second car pulling out at the last second and winning the race. SURPRISE SURPRISE! as Gomer would say. Although I don't agree that it's an exciting race to watch anymore, I do agree that the drivers need to do what ever it takes to win. However, like Greg said, if all the cars didn't have the same body alignment we wouldn't have a perfect fit of nose to tail trailer race. Bottom line is: Who ever ended up in the top 4 at the end was bound to have a 25% (+/-) chance of winning. Not unless the 5 and 6 place car hitched tongue and ball and made a dash for it.

What is your opinion of the Talladega 2-car hookup?

General

It's been since October since the last Talladega race and I forgot about how 2 cars can push each other around the track faster than than a train of cars can run and how goofy the last race looked with everyone "hooking up" in the last laps to make it look more like a "trailer race". In my opinion the 2-car hookup has undermined racing at Talladega and turned one of the more exciting races into some silly looking sideshow. What's you opinion?

Is Jimmy and Jeff at outs???

Current NASCAR

Didn't know about the drama but, Jeff has had to take a back seat to Jimmie. Once Jeff was the star, now he's the "has-been" and Jimmie the star. I remember a time when Gordon won everything, the tides have changed, they always will. Rusty Wallace was on fire when Gordon made his debut, I don't think Rusty ever got over not being the "hot shot" once Gordon started winning races and championships. The more things change the more they stay the same.I'd like to see Gordon start winning again so I'll pull for Gordon. Jimmie Johnson is boring and he sand bags too much.

I saw that race and got a glimpse of Geoff coming over to congratulate the team. A proud moment in American sports history. Thanks Geoff Bodine for bringing the gold home. Go team USA!

"I'm a POT-HOLE"

Current NASCAR

The voice of the Gieco pot hole is Neal Boorts's co-talk show host (can't think of her name). For whatever reason she is the voice of the pot hole and DW is the voice of NASCAR. Hmmm? There's some symbolism there; a pot-hole and NASCAR, they both are sinking. The it was a very good race thanks to the drivers, NO THANKS to NASCAR
