Ronnie Hall

General

I emailed the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum with the question of "Where's Ronnie Hall now?" Hopefully I will get a reply. I also searched the www.whitepages.com and given that Ronnie was born in 1946 would make him 63 years old. I did come across a few names that matched the age in Georgia but there's no telling where he may be living now.

Historical Moments

Stock Car Racing History

Though some folks are reluctant to talk about it, I would say that the Moonshine Runners and the Mechanics that built the shine runners for endurance and speed are the single most important factors in stock car racing. Note I said "single" and "factors" (plural) in the same sentence because, there wouldn't have been one without the other.

Which current drivers could have competed then?

Current NASCAR

I tend to agree with Tommy Buxton, that with some physical conditioning anyone of the them could drive a car back when. However, it's not the physical aspect that determines a good driver IMO, it's the mental frame of mind. How mentally tough are today's driver over yesteryears drivers. I'm sure some would match up fine but there's a bunch that couldn't stand to suffer through the heat, dust, dirt, primitive life style (sleeping in the truck, bus, on the hood, where ever). I just don't think todays driver's are "tough" enough to match up with drivers from the past. As a matter of fact, I think a lot of them are straight up pansies.Do you think Cale Yarborough would make "Snow Angels" after winning at Bristol, or David Pearson to "bow" like some opra singer, or Curtis Turner do a flip off a car, or Buck Baker climb a fence? No, todays drivers are spoiled brats and weak minded, soft and milky. Put Cale, David, Curtis or Buck in a COT today and see how these present driver's could stack up. LOL!

I saw my first Modified Stock Car Race in the fall of 1949.

Stock Car Racing History

That is some good information Jim, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Your right, the 46 Ford Coupe is big and bulky but it sure does have a place in history being it's a post-war relic stock car. So you saying I would need a 239 CI flathead to make it complete?

Stock Car Racing History

JimI purchased a 46 Ford modified coupe the other day that raced at Rockingham Speeday (dirt track) at a hobby or jalopy. After getting the big coupe home I noticed how similar it is to a 1940 coupe accept it's much, much larger. It wasn't until Bobby Williamson told me that the 1946 was the year the car manufactures started producing cars again, he said they quit making them in 1942 to refit for the war effort. My question is: Do you know of any make/models that were produced between 1942 and 1946? I had never really thought of it before.ThanksJim WilmoreFayetteville,NC
