The passing of Tom Lupo

Uncategorized

I never knew Tom personally but I remember his name and remember him through news articles when dominating at Rambi speedway. He still was a racing legend and therefore a part of the racing family so our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. God Speed Tom;

We have lost another,Jimmy Griffin(1935-2008)

Uncategorized

I remember Jimmy most running the late model sportsman. When ask for his hometown he would say Draper NC when the inspector that was filling out the entry blank for the race would then ask. Where the ----- is Draper he would say right in the middle of Eden. And the inspector then knew he had been had. Jimmy would just smile and walk away while all the others standing around would razz you pretty hard for falling for his joke. Jimmy was a very good driver and I seen him run tracks all around the southeast. He like many others did not have alot of backing but was good enough to made it big had the right situation came around. God speed Jimmy and rest in peace.

Kyle Busch/Sam Ard

Uncategorized

Tommy I to will have to eat alot of crow in the future. I could not believe what I was hearing. My reaction was shock and disbelief and after I regained my composer I called Sam and talked to Robert he to was in shock. I will not say anything bad about Kyle again. This was not a gift to the Ard family it is a god send. We at the Old Timers Racing Club salute Kyle Busch and his generosity he will be blessed for his actions. We know also that some of the other drivers have been very supportive of Sam and Jo in recent months and our hats go off to them also.However this is just a drop in the bucket to what they face in the future so lets keep them in our hearts and prayers.

Which current drivers could have competed then?

Current NASCAR

I think the drivers of today that could maybe compete with the old guys would be Tony Stewart,Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordan, Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, and maybe Dale jr.

Which current drivers could have competed then?

Current NASCAR

Jeff I like many of your members have been around racing all my life. I can remember seeing these men compete for the love of competiton and bragging rights not the money and lavish lifestyle that these guys enjoy today. They would work a job in a factory, service station or garage and work half the night and drive their race cars to the track and race three sometimes four days a week and hope that they didnt crash their ride back home. They were the car owner, mechanic and driver all in one. Most of them had no sponsors exept for a tire or tank of gas and their pit crews were friends or relitives if they had a crew. They would help each other work on their cars even if they thought they would get outrun by the one they were helping. These men were a total different breed of man in the good old days of racing. But only a handful of drivers in todays racing could compete with the old timers of the 50s and 60s. That is my opinion for what it is worth.
