WAKE UP SLEEPY
Stock Car Racing History
Upon arrival I could hear a muffled noise but could not determine where it was coming from. This explains it though. And to answer the food question yes the had plenty to eat.

If you notice the source of the (backing into a championship ) was the (AP) they was not that sharp in those days and are not much better today.Just my opinion.
A decent race with way to many advertisements but the Mark Marin crash would have been much worse had he hit one foot farther back and ruptured the fuel cell rather than the oil canister. Hopefully his roll cage would have held up had he hit a foot more forward. It was bad enough as it was. I don't remember one wreck like that one maybe they need some boiler plates at the end of the openings of pit road.
What they ought to have done is catch the idiot that tossed the shoe and took his other one and made him walk home without socks or shoes. And then brought him to the track and turned him or her over to the crews for their punishment.
YES YES. Jr had told me over breakfast more than once had he and Bobby stayed together bobby would have been in the cat bird seat as reining cup champion many times over. I tend to agree with Jr, But Bobby had other ideas. Even Bobby has said that was one move that he has regretted looking back at history. It takes a big man to say that he has made a mistake and yet doesn't blame anyone but himself.
If we are talking about stock cars three come to mind. Curtis Turner, Jim Paschal, Red Byron. If all divisons are in cluded then A.J. Foyt and Tim Richmond, and Bobby Allison.
Thanks Dave another great cruise down memory lane. When I first started the Old Timers Club we would go and spend an afternoon remenissing with men like Jimmy Lewallen, Bob Welborn, Whitey Norman and Pee Wee went with me one Saturday and if I had only thought to tape or video these sessions they would be priceless. He got ill in a few years and didn't feel like visiting so we honored his request for private time with his family. We still reguard him as one of the finest drivers to turn a wheel in any type car he drove.
It passes the test as far as I am concerned . However they had a co-pilot with them.
Thank you PK for bring back the good memories of our beloved friends.
Oscar passed away several years ago. He and I used to room together and drank a lot of beer and booze together while we would sit in the room and stamp garage passes and watch tv. He was a great guy and very loyal to NASCAR. He knew everyone that walked into the gate of a garage area. You should have heard some of the stories that he would tell of people and what they would say to get a garage pass. It was hillarious to hear those stories. Good times......
