Stock Car Racing History
Many racers from the 50's, 60's and early 70's can point to at least one race and say "I won that one" yet the record book has someone else listed.

I'm guessing the third place starter Jimmy Lee Capps is the same Jimmy Capps from Jacksonville the later ran the GT/GA series.
I though NASCAR was breaking its own rule with that way to long of a caution but I was also puzzled about the Penske plan. I thought the goals were 1: win Sam the Championship. 2: Win Owner's Championship. 3: Win the race. I guess when it became apparent Sam was not going to win the race then his driving title became of less importance than no.2 and no.3.
That's cool Dave. I knew about the #91 Chevelle but never knew of any connection with Cannaday Chevrolet other than the fact that Ted would order factory racing parts right out of the performance catalog for GN teams as well as local outlaw teams. That's where dad got most of his 396 parts for the dirt Chevelles he owned. I think I've still got part of one of those catalogs somewhere. At that time you couldn't get over the counter racing parts from Ford.
16th place finisher Ted Cannaday seemed familiar so I looked it up and he should be. Ted would end up with a Chevrolet dealership in Liberty, NC. Dad bought a lot of over the counter 396 parts there and ended up in the showroom in 1969 with Cannaday Chevrolet on the quarter panels on this Chevelle.
Only a few years later Tiny would end up behind the wheel for Bud. In 1968 Tiny would drive Bud's Mercury's in Grand National and win the Grand Touring Championship in the Cougars.
Jack, Broadus Kelly, Edmund Blue, Johnny Newton, Rock Raines, L.A.Hamilton and David Munnerlyn are all names I remember from Rockingham Speedway in the 60's.
