Rock Raines had a 2nd and a 3rd at Rockingham Speedway in 1960. Wonder if this is the car he drove there?

I think that is the same '64 Ford Tommy Bostick bought from Ned Jarrett and starting winning with in 1965.
Racing Thru History last Tuesday night brought a lot of names from the late 60's and early 70's to mind of local drivers that were our Home Town Heroes. I remembered getting this 1969 Carolina Dirt Track Circuit from Sherman Garris and scanning it. Been sharing from it this week.
Great work Tim. You did a good job of putting this event in context with the season. That's why I sent it to you.
That was going to be my follow up trivia Cody. I knew you would know it.
That is almost right Robert. J.F. Fricks turned out to be Raymond Parks but it was brother Bob Flock that took over and finished 3rd to Red Byron in another Parks Ford and Marshall Teague 2nd.
The very first NASCAR race was a 150 mile event held on the new 2.2 mile beach and road course just south of Daytona Beach called the Rayson Memorial on Feb. 15, 1948. A last minute entry was a yellow '39 Ford Coupe #22-A with J.F Fricks listed as the driver. The car started the race but finished with another driver behind the wheel. Who took over the ride to earn a 3rd place finish and what was the real name of J.F. Fricks?
US Hwy 64 was the main east/west road in NC in the 1960's so many folks traveled it from Raleigh to Lexington and then to Charlotte. My home town of Siler City is about half way between Raleigh and Lexington so we would get stories of famous people stopping at local Drive In's Diners and Dives for lunch. Haystack Calhoun liked a place called Lambert's Drive In. It had a few tables but the main place to eat was a large bar opposite the grill that had those drum shaped stools that swivel round and round. Haystack needed at least 2 of those stools, one under each cheek.
