Dave, J.D. was running Pete Brewer's '65 Chevelle at Rockingham, Sanford and Dillon in 1967.
Thanks Dave, If I ever knew it I had forgotten that they ran the Comet in '68 too. Short tracks I guess since they ran the fast back Cyclone on the big tracks. Tiny did good, can't remember hearing him talk that long without a big laugh in there somewhere.
Talked to Dad about the Grand Touring test at VIR. He remembers it being 1969 and that he and Tiny were both invited to test. Tiny got there first and called dad and told him not to make the haul because NASCAR said the barriers and run-off space did not meet their standards.
Today it is one of the most technically difficult circuits in the country for a driver and one of the most beautiful tracks for the fan.
I don't remember the year but I do know that Tiny Lund and maybe a few others (only remember Tiny for sure) did a test at VIR in his GT/GA car. Can't recall the reasons but they never scheduled a GT/GA race there but the NASCAR owned Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series ran at VIR from 2002 to 2011.
President of Bosch Engineering USA Keith Andrews gives the command to "Start Your Engines" for the 2009 Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR.
1972 Grand American Champ Wayne Andrews drops the green on the Bosch Engineering 250.
Daytona Prototype Podium for the April 25, 2009 Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR.
First place finishers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty (top center) from Bob Stallings Racing drove a Pontiac powered Riley.
Second place finishers Michael Valiante and John Pew (left) from Michael Shank Racing drove a Ford powered Riley.
Third place finishers David Donohue and Darren Law (right) from Brumos Racing drove a Porsche powered Riley.
TMC, In 1969 or '70 Dad and Reid Shaw went to Michigan for a GT race and blew their only engine in practice. Don't remember if it was after qualifying but he never ran a lap in the race but got credit for last place.
All Pro tire carrier Darrell Andrews is from my home town of Siler City, NC.
Tim, I can't help but think that this property would never have been able to host such events if it were not for all the volunteers that worked so hard and long to get the track in condition for the RR events. Not only did you folks save the speedway but brought the whole property back to life. Congratulations!
I'd like mine with cheese please.
