A Quick description of how drafting at Daytona is now described by drivers

Current NASCAR

This is like going to the high school dance. You're going to hook up with some girl and go until about 11 o'clock. But by 11:05, you're going to have to find another date, because she hooked up with your buddy. That's what you're dealing with.

This is a unique way of racing now ,or do you see it another way------

The #88 and the #18

Patty I did not for once denounce Teresa in her input on building DEI. That girl stood beside Dale through thick and thin to get where they were when he died. The only thing I didnt like was she did not want anything to do with the joint venture that Dale and Kelly wanted. I also think that Kerry was in on that venture, Taylor was tucked under Teresa's wing at that point so she was immediatly taken care of. The whole thing I think is being steered by another hand unknown to at least me. Thats my take on the matter so you and Earnest get outta the dog house and back on the porch with the rest of us.

I always try to be fair, and I really have no one favorite driver...anymore. I always try to give proper credit where it is due. Kyle Busch doesn't need my help The kid is good...spelled G...O...O...D!

Junior...not so much. He is average, by my reckoning, but has done alright for himself in many respects. And yes...I realize what he has lost; more than most folks could know. So many demanding fans pounced on him when Dale was taken away, telling him, in short, that he must fill the gap left by his Daddy. I never joined that throng. Despite the like name, there was, and is, only one Dale Earnhardt...the original. Junior will never be Dale, and I have never expected that of him. It is...in my humble opinion...unfair of his "Nation" to ask it of him either.

Now then...regarding your statement about Teresa having "turned" on Brenda's offspring...

It's hard to express how very much I agree with what Ernest had to say. Teresa was the love of Dale's life. They built DEI together, and if and when it came to Dale not being here, it is just for dang sure that it was never intended to go to two of his children (Dale Jr. and Kelley), while excluding the other two (Kerry and Taylor Nicole).

Believe it or not, I have lost friends...ones that I considered GOOD friends...because they put down Teresa Earnhardt. The simple fact that Dale chose her is good enough for me. Dale had a will. He did NOT leave DEI to two of his kids...he wisely left it to Teresa, the love of his life. When asked, Dale always said that ALL of his business life was in her hands. Dale was not a business man. He was a racecar driver...and a farmer. Anything to do with numbers and contracts was handled by Teresa...and we have Dale's word on that.

If Brenda's "children"...the ones she gave up when she saw money in their future...wanted DEI, it quite possibly might have been for sale, and that was put on the table at the time. They didn't want to buy it...they wanted it given to them...to the exclusion of Kerry and Taylor.

Sorry, but I find that indefensible, and frankly, unpalatable as well. And NO...that isn't bashing. Just the facts...and nothing but the facts.

Ernest...is there room for two in that doghouse? :)

While reading other posts and several discussions and ducking a few thrown remarks I have come to the conclusion that some dont like one or both as some display in type.

Well give kyle points for not being perfect---in how he feels sometimes and true he gets a little up set when he is moved out of the way------- but he can drive, really anything he sets in. He has proven that,he may not always win but when you consistantly come from behind again and again the be in the thick of things at the finish, you gotta admire that. Wasnt there anther driver that also displayed the same talent???

Junior can also drive and he is especially good on those long restrictor tracks because you have to read the wind and adjust,I think he had a heck of a good teacher.

Ok you say he aint for nothing huh?? The fat lady hasnt sung yet by a long shot, There may just be a junior nation revival here shortly so dont talk to loud.

I tell you what,he has had a lot happen to him in a very short span, from losing his father to hisstep mother turning on him and Kelly. Doest seem like much until you set in his shoes.

But this year he may make a lot eat crow---are you ONE???

good interpretation of the rules. thats how i read it---- On tonites show I think we should let the official board of Racers Reunion disect this problem and come up with the proper way this will be handled. Proffessor Jerry Smith and his Unique board of directors he draws on so ofter will offer the verdict. that is with the one and onlyJudge Leeming presiding .

I think there is something in the brew for this year because several things have happened however so small they are at the moment it could bear heavely on next years cars (shape, style, motor andbest of all L O O K). Only time will tell

Tim Leeming said:

Question: If, as the rules state, the winner of the first Twin 150 starts inside second row, and, if Jr. wins the first Twin 150 in his backup car, would that not be the car he would race Sunday, thus no longer a "backup car". Would such a ruling also not help NASCAR's continuing quest to cash in on the Dale, Sr. tragedy of 10 years ago with the "fairytale finish" it so desires on Sunday? It's easy to manipulate that without arousing suspicion although I have heard that one of the ESPN folks has incurred the wrath of Dale Jarrett by suggesting that NASCAR has a vested interest in Dale, Jr. winning that race Sunday and probably with Mikey finishing second. No, I'm not setting out a conspiracy here, only stating that with the proper "interpretation" of the rule book so eloquenty described by Mr. Mallonee, anything is possible in the Daytona sunshine.

God bless America and the number 88.

Yea----- you go girl, thats the point that needs adressing. Is there an exception to the rule there? I ve looked through this Bible as they call it and thats not defined as such unless----------------- someone scribbled a line in between (as grampa France used one to two times) then it makes perfectly good sense. JJ is not acting like his old self either this year----that may some bearing on the subject at hand. Could HMS have a little foggy area in the shop?? Maybe someone needs to snoop around up there in the Queen City and find out.. Any Takers---------

PattyKay Lilley said:

Richard, I posted Jay's answer last night, but it makes no sense to me, and I've been around long enough one would think I would be tough to confuse. I know all about the engine and backup rules, and the 1-engine exemption at Daytona. That was never the point.

I think most of us were under the impression that since they do get that "extra" engine, that the move to the rear was for the Duals, not for the 500...unless of course, you mess up on Friday or Saturday.

Hamlin changed an engine...and a tranny. He's in the back for the Duals only. Truex, like Junior, is in a backup car. He's in the back for the Duals only. Do the rules say then, that if you win the inside or outside pole, you are the only one punished for having a problem?

That's what we're all seeing, and it makes no sense to anyone. If you can explain that part, you'll be doing a better job than the boobs on the tube or any of the rest of us.

Uh now that makes perfectly good sense in the eyes of Brain boy and his cronies. There is no way you can argue with someone who thinks like that---its almost the same as wrestling with a pig in a mud hole, after a while you finally figure it out, that the pig is having to much fun. Now that should just about explain it all to ya, Right??? Oh wait mud wrestling in Daytona consists of two or more people, preferably girls wresting in a bar pit with that slickum stuff on them. Now that is the Brain Boy way of fun. Where his ex wife caught him anyway.

PattyKay Lilley said:

You think you're confused? This explanation (?) comes from Jayski. (Don't shoot; I'm just the messenger) That second paragraph is enough to make you tear your hair out!

Earnhardt Jr. wrecks in practice, goes to backup car:

During the rain delayed 1st practice on Wednesday, #48-Johnson and #88-Earnhardt Jr. were drafting in a two car pack; just behind them was another 2 car pack, #56-Truex Jr and #83-Vickers. #48-Johnson lifted as he came up on a slower pack of cars, Earnhardt got into Johnson, who got loose but recovered, Truex had no place to go and got into Earnhardt, sending both the #88 and #56 sliding through the grass, with the #88 hitting the inside SAFER wall, bouncing off and back into Truex.

So both are going to backup cars. Since Earnhardt Jr.'s starting spot was locked in, he will have to go to the rear of the field before the start of Gatorade Duel 1 and the Daytona 500. Truex Jr. will start at the rear of the Gatorade Duel but starting [In the 500] where he qualifies with his Gatorade Duel result. Whichever driver starts 3rd in the Daytona 500 [to be determined in the Gatorade Duels] will start first in the Daytona 500.

depends on what time of the day it is ---For the life of me I cant keep up with the shenanigans that bunch does . It seems to me its almost like playing cards with a dude that only has three cards in a box. If you have ever played three card molly you will know what I mean.

If they are held to using their qualifying car for the race then why risk it all on the track in practice . If you beat it all to heck in the qualifying races and win does that mean you cant repair or replace the car? If thats so then I saw Junior Johnson totally rebuild one at Darlington, heck he even changed an engine during a lengthy caution and still was a contender or did he win the race.

Who caused the wreck, was it JJ checking up or was it behind them that the ruckus started.

No matter when Brain boy gets through with the pressure switch on the cooling system and then putting that plate in the radiator to restrict the flow when drafting there will be plenty of lead changes going on. Think of this, when they get the cars hot enough they will loose water---on the track?--- could that make for a slippery condition while following some one? Oh boy the variances in our wonderful sport of racing. Someone answer the Question please-----------------------------------------------------------------memories

Looks like Jimmie Johnson decidedthat Jr was to fast for JJ so he puts on brakes and now Jr starts from the rear.

Funny how that works, but then again some say he doesnt deserve the pole and its rigged so that solves that problem. Now if he comes back Sunday and wins does that mean that was rigged too?You tell me!!!!!
