REAL modifieds

General

Your Triade as you call it is what I've been ranting about for a while now. Decals are the only difference in those Cars of Tin or otherwise COT. I grew up when everything was made in the shop and nobody had the same stuff, Dad had stuff on his car in the 50's that guys would look and scratch their heads in awe. His front end was a piece of art. Im building one now and already running into flack like we dont run that or is that vintage? Its a Modified Dang it doesnt that stand for anything any more??Its being built old school style,so far Ive either built the stuff or dug it out of a Junk yard. The prices they want for a simple torsion in line is ridiculous. And how they drive todays car with the steering wheel up in your face is beyond me. I aint got no power steering either, So my little ole 40 chevy coupe will be different from the norm unless its Peanuts pretty white coupe, now thats a work of art there.

A bounty has been put on each of the remaining chase Races

Current NASCAR

Jamie Allison Gen manager for Ford North American Racingannounced Sunday in a meeting for Ford teams that any Ford Chase driver who wins any one of the final eight races this year will earn a $100,000 bonus for his team, an incentive one Roush Fenway Racing crewman described as a bounty. So does this mean that those other brands better of cars better start working with their reps for a kick back or will they just be left by the side of the road.

Setting on the creek bank watching

General

On any given Sunday you could go to the Big track and enjoy a real good day of racing . But those days have gone by the wayside.General admission is ridiculous to say the least and the cars, well the cars all look alike and drivers are different over what they once were? You just cant access them anymoreNow seriously think about this,Your car you have now has more creature comforts than anything produced in the past. You are living a lifestyle that in only dreamed about in other countries. When you graduated from the school of hard knots you said the future is mine now, right?Well the future is here now and do you have a grip on your percentage? If not better get it while you can!If you are part of a group of concerned citizens who want things, lets say certain things, back to the way we had it when life was really good. Lets even get more critical here, life in general now is better than it was ten years ago,but now we are getting down to the nitty gritty. Our sport has went from the world class that it was to a play of power or rather its my way or no way.Racing has to have limits or else it will do two things, the rich get richer and the poor, well they go home.To me this is where we are at today. If you or I had a car running in todays Sprint Cup most assuredly we could not afford more than Two cars much less a jig setup like is required to meet the tolerances that is bestowed on the teams.Motors are another major item, lest you have an engine room with dyno you are hit or miss at the best.Testing is another item, most all of us have a five day wok week that allows us quality time only under that twenty watt bulb hanging in the carport or at best a garage out back.So here you are wanting to chase the dream you grew up watching, but you are having a tough time deciding what kinda car you want to build. If you playing in the big time gang your choice is easy, all the cars are alike. Just change a few stickers and go from a Toyota to a Dodge or even a Chevy.Engines are what you can afford,no junk yard has these to rebuild. So now the delima is what to do on a set budget, chasing Tony or even Dale Jr on a budget??Ok now you can back off and go fishing with that twelve pack of crying power suds--------------O RBuild yourself a Stocker and run all around your house on any given weekend. Now the rules there are cut and dried and if you cheat real good they just add to the wicker on top of your car, plain and simple, it keeps the field close for good action. Not your bag of chips you say? Well then there is another class thats out there with only two rules, its got to be safe and its got to look the era.Yup Vintage racing and Racers Reunion has the best Bang for the Buck. You want to honk on it on dirt? Well there is a club or two within driving distance for you.Ok you dont want to exactly fly low but rather ride around and throw a little mud and pull in and wipe the mud off your baby. They there too.But the bottom line is this, Nascar is not what we cut our baby teeth on and you will surely wear out a few dentures,if you got them, trying to keep up with the happenings there. This brings us down to the bottom line, M O N E Y , most of us dont have the capitol to run out and just flash that plastic card to buy our ride and if you tried that umbrella setting behind the door will be a bow tie for you complements of the other half.So going racing is still feasible to us oldsters and you youngsters too. You just got to play carefully and see what you can afford. A good vintage car should run for you all year providing you dont get a piece of the fence or collect another car in the rush.A figure Im not throwing out there but it can be done from nearly nothing to the skys the limit.I wrote this as my feelings towards what I grew up on has changed so drastically Im not even interested in it but rather the cars of yesteryear play in my mind daily and I go to sleep thinking of the next reunion we have and maybe the first race of next year.So in closing you have a choice tomorrow, you can participate in the show, watch the show or---take that twelve pack down to the creek and watch the itty bitty fishes play.

New Wendell Scott Documentary

Hey wow we could kinda comb our hair back in a duck tail and go down and buy a pack of Marlboros and roll them up in our t-shirt sleeve. Man just think we could get a pair of to long blue jeans out also and roll up the cuffs on them and a belt, yeah a belt with a buckle this big. Oh I almost forgot "Penny Loafers" now theres an icon for you. Or how about a button up shirt with the collar turned up in back, and that loop in between the shoulders that was there for the girls to catch you by. And them Poodle skirts, man they were pretty when you got that cute thing on the dance floor with you and she had that RED lipstick onnnnn !!! It did get kinda smeared at times but thats what that scarf she wore was for .
But the cars were the thing, I remember the first real ride I had,man was she a beauty. It had long cruiser skirts on it and Olds flipper hubcaps with two antennas on the back. But the best part of all of my favorite car was letting the top down and just cruising slow thru the Shoneys Drive in or the Dairy Queen. Now mind you it wasnt quick by a long shot but I did have a Split manifold on it with glasspacks . Yup that ole 52 Chevy took me a many a place during school. But the real kicker to it was I had a 301 Jimmy engine in it out of one of Dads big trucks that had rolled over. Dang thing got me several tickets before I found out that the drag strip was the place to play. But you see not everyone had a cool midget to go racing on the weekends--as long as my grades were kept up. Boy I would really like to go up to that film shoot at I-77 . Dont tell nobody but if I can sneak away I might just grab that gal setting in yonder and ease on up there, you never will know if you dont try ---------------------------------------------------memories

THE KANGAROO COURT DID ITS DUTY TODAY

Current NASCAR

Well after all was said and done Richard Childress came out of court today 150k lighter and madder than a wet setting hen. After they tried to present their case to the committee who wasnt interested in hearing anything Richard or his experts said. Richard handed them a ck for 150k and an appeal notice and walked out.. You ever heard you can lead a Donkey to water but danged if you can make him drink--sound familiar????? you tell me
