Tim I did not know what had happened until later that nite when we parked,it was like listening to Orson Wells on radio back, back in the day. I never saw either plane hit and when we got down to DC they routed all traffic completely away from the area. All traffic coming out of NY was one way on both sides of the tollways. First and only time I ever came out of the Northeast and didnt pay a toll

Unfortunately, I do not know how to add that e-mail to the site. I just have not learned things like that. I have someone else upload all my pictures because I don't know how to do that either.
Thank each of you for sharing those memories. Johnny, you were the closest of all to the actual happen. You saw the smoke for real, not on tv.
I had actually written a very long blog about that day was posted it on here. I was going back through and reading it and decided to delete it entirely because it was getting far deeper than I felt like posting here. But,this is a proper forum for posting such thoughts. Something about race fans, especially we older fans, is deeply patriotic. Watch The National Anthem being played at NASCAR events, NFL, MLB and other sporting events. I have only seen a very few at the race tracks not remove their hats and put their hands over their hearts. NFL and MLB folks seem to care less. Watch and see what I mean.
Next year is the 10th anniversary. Why the 10th is more special than the first, third, ninth, or whatever, I don't know. But I have heard that they are planning very special observances on the 10th anniversary.

I had a pick up Naval Shipyards across the river sorta in Brooklyn NY at 10 am on 9/11 I got down to shipyard the nite before and parked . next morning there were 4 trucks setting waiting to load when there was a bunch of smoke coming from the manhatten area. a few minutes later another big cloud of smoke started rising from the same area. The waterway immediately became busy with coastguard and police. About that time we were ordered to drop our trailers and immediately vacate Brooklyn,we still didnt know what was happening. after being escorted out of NY we were in traffic outbound only--we started hearing of things going on in dc and ny. After getting into Va finally stopped at a truck stop and called in telling dispatch where our trailers were left. we were sent into Ky to wait thats when we finally learned about 9/11 Never forget what I saw that morning

The little oval in Augusta, Ga.

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Way to go sir;I traveled the roads for over 30 years hauling super heavy haul coast to coast so I personally have a good idea what you will see in your ventures. Only thing I had over you was we didnt run after dark that way we got to watch races after dark ha ha ha. Glad to know that a responsible sole is taking care of business for Free. God Bless You my friend and will be looking forward to meeting you in Augusta on the 18th

Current NASCAR

It looks as though the Pink Toyota will indeed run in Richmond this weekend in the Nationwide race. Kyle will be dressed in pink along with his crewchief. And the car will be adorned as in the commercial on tv.Kyles crew chief told somebody last week that if were going to race a pink car, we better run well because you cant show up with a pink car and run badly,. If you do, its like a double-whammy. It will be fun and, with the new-generation car, it will be interesting. It should be fun and I know its something Kyles been looking forward to. He loves that pink suit. You know Kyle he likes to stand out in the crowd. And yes Kyle does love animals, He just said, All right, whatever, lets do it. he wasnt too offended by it at all, so it wasnt too big of a deal, he said. It was a neat commercial and the way that it turned out was really fun. Doing it and showing some sarcasm during it was neat. And guess what--for once the fans are all for it ---Are you in favor?? I can only guess your response

Back in the 60's this was done

Trivia

if you remember on a chevy the block breather was on the rear of motor--when engine blowby seeped put it seemed to always leak down on clutch causing slip --the rags were there to keep dirt from being sucked into breathers there was also a momentary vacuum during the pulsation of pistons--breather pipes were most always filled with steel wool to further control the flow of liquid out and trash in -- when these breathers were put on right bank oil would gather in valve cover on right side and be blown out breathers --to control this oil being pumped to rockers pipe cleaners were put in pushrods to reduce flow to rockers so buildup in valve covers Paul Zappardino said:
If I am correct Johnny, It was to control the amount of blow-by or keep the oil from blowing out on the engine

Trivia

Back in the late 50's and 60's most V8 engines had breathers welded onto their valve covers.
Why were they only put on the left bank valve cover and if you saw rags tied on them what was this a sign of

A technical question that was asked today at shop

Trivia

Thought this might be a different flair to what we are used to------------------------What is the most lift you can use on a cam in a stock V8 chevy on first generation motor without valves hitting pistons.I thought it was a good question because soldier wants a car with the really rough idle and he is fixing to change his cam and lifters. Lets hear it from you great builders of yesteryear.
