Peaceful settlements.

Stock Car Racing History

i remember on more than one occasion in pheonix city when we were pulling over there kinda regular i was given a tour off the #3 &4 turn more than once by sam --and always he would come and say i didnt see you coming by up high like that, knowing all well he did, never got past the discussion aspect of talk but he was notorious for rubbin real hard when you started pressing him--Bobby and Donnie were there one time i remember and all three went over the bank together and race had to be stopped while they separated the crews and got the cars back on the track-- just another time in life i call flash backs from the the wonderful world of racing

A great gentleman and racer from back in the day decided the old drivers ,some great, some not so great deserved recognition for their racing ventures.. He decided that mothers day weekend would serve as a great time to remember them.Another great driver and guy took up this effort as an extension of the efforts of who..Anyone out there care to name these two great drivers from the past??

Who was the best Grand national Driver on dirt

Stock Car Racing History

BETCHA DIDNT KNOW THIS or maybe you didRichard Petty made history when he won a 200-lap race at the half-mile State Fairgrounds Raceway in Raleigh on September 30, 1970. It was the 42nd race of the season, the 989th major event in NASCAR history, and the last dirt-track Cup race in NASCAR ever sanctioned.Petty, driving his familiar No. 43 Plymouth, started sixth, and led one time for 112 laps to post the victory. It was the 15th win of the season and 117th of his career. As he was in most areas of NASCAR racing, Petty was one of the tour's best dirt-track racers. But the Petty listed No. 1 in the NASCAR record book under"most dirt-track wins" is Lee Petty, who got 43 of his 54 career victorieson dirt-tracks in the '50s and early '60s.REAL RACE FANS KNOW THAT Dirt's For Racing, Asphalt's For Getting There. That oughta make'em race on dirt at least twice a year!

the good ole days are coming back i hear

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Middle Georgia RacewayMiddle Georgia Raceway, Macon, Ga.This half-mile paved oval welcomed the NASCAR big leagues nine times between 1966 and 1971, four of those races were run by Richard Petty, two by Bobby Allison and one each by David Pearson and Bobby Isaac all Cup champions. In 1968, government agents raided the racetrack as part of a major illegal liquor sting. A secret door located in the ticket booth led to a ladder, which descended 35 feet to another hidden entrance. That trap door led to a 150-foot tunnel, which ended at a cave beneath the track infield. Inside the cave was a gigantic moonshine still, which was promptly shut down and the track owner was sent to the slammer. The race, however, was run as planned and won by Pearson enroute to his second series title.theNow It is understood that a prominent group of old racers from an era gone by are in the process of giving the track a face lift and a new look on life. Rumor on pit road is there will be a function at the track this year. Now set down and let that soak in. Wonder who this group of old racers are!!!

So we still get to side and play---Correct??!!
Jeff Gilder said:
Since this post was originated back in May, I have discontinued the boat, motorcycle, off road, and road course sites. I then added a local racersreunion site for the folks that want to post photos of their street stocks, late models, mini stocks, etc. Still looking for the best solution, but for now I'm ok with what we have. I have considered combining the dirt site with the stock car site, but I like what is happening with that site for now.
thanks for all your input!

Being as we have heard from mud buggies to row boats it seems as it would be in the sites greatest interest to move the dirt into Racers Reunion along with the open wheel guys because they cross pollinate real easy when around each other, As others have posted they may shed a tear or two but betcha they would quickly learn to co-habitat quickly.. Show and shine guys and gals get their kicks in parking lots on the weekends anyway so no harm no foul there. The only real threat that rose above the dust was them dang bootleggers with Elliott Ness looking for them. Now as I see it harmony is not to hard to find if you are a real lover of old shool racing, whether its on the icky black top or the fabulous tracks of gooey sticky clay. Both are winners here on R/R. So yall suck it up and copy your wares over there or forever be in cyber space looking for the pace car..----------------------------------memories

Well if you going to shake up a hen house then do it right I say.The road course and the off road are unique in their own way, maybe putting that together in one heading. The open wheel and dirt racers reunion are to close in comparison so they could be joined with no problem.the show car guys are in a world of their own I think, they dont like dirt and dust but sure shine when they get set up,and are a drawing crowd pleaser when viewed with other shows, So if you put the show cars and the boats together would that work?? this is my point of view to the site---I love all them but as you said we are divided . If a all out ask for either a pronounced increase in site use in the slack areas doesnt produce enough traffic to warrent continuation of each one then the last resort is to either combine or delete. Man thats a hard call to make from any aspect. I will uphold your decision

How to settle a fight off the track

Stock Car Racing History

Curtis Turner & Lee Petty didnt get along too well. Turner made a fortune in the lumber industry & raced for the fun of it. Lee Petty raced to put food on the table. At a race in Virginia one time Turner had been rough on his & Pettys equipment. After the race Petty went up to confront Turner.Turner was sitting on a fence having an after the race cocktail. Petty approached Turner with a rolled up newspaper. He questioned Turners rough driving. Turner made a grave mistake by trying to laugh it off. Petty whacked him with the newspaper. The newspaper had a torque-wrench rolled inside of it & Petty made his point. Now thats getting the point across across without loosing your torgue.

And you think ole D.W. and crew were a law abiding team huh

Stock Car Racing History

Gary Nelson told a tale on himself about the time when he and ol DW were winning a Championship together. It seems that he figured out a way to load several hundred pounds of buckshot into the roll cage of Darrells car, allowing it to beat the scales and pass prerace inspection.Once Waltrip was on the track and doing pace laps, he had only to pull a hidden lever, which allowed the lead (And of course the weight) to be ejected from the car and roll harmlessly down the banking. The signal that this had been accomplished was Waltrip, keying his radio and yelling, Bombs away!Needless to say, this much underweight car won more than its share of races.NASCAR however, never managed to catch the pair at this particular trick. Nelson had cleverly located the exit spout exactly where the jack was positioned. When NASCAR inspectors raised the car with a jack, they concealed the evidence, and cleared the car to qualify and run. Yep, that one went more than a bit beyond experimenting in the grey areas and right on up to full-scale cheating, but it worked. However the gig was up when one time some one washed the car with the buckshot in place. Seems they rusted and when Darrell opened the chute to let them go, they didn't exit at an appropriate time. Instead, they fell out directly in front of inspectors. Maybe thats where the saying Boogity Boogity lets go racing boys came from --as he was leaving the empound area . Another story you may not have known
