Starting the weekend off right with some old DW antics

Stock Car Racing History

Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip were battling at Michigan. Back and forth they went swapping the lead. First DW was in the lead the Cale would pass him. Then DW would pass Cale back.Junior had been on the radio telling DW not to let that little short so and so beat him. Finally the checkered flag waved for Cale Yarborough with DW coming in second. After Cale took the checkered flag he starts to slow down.Well, ole DW floors it aiming straight for Cale.Right before DW made impact with Cales car, Cale swerves and DW goes into the infield which was a muddy mess. DW got bogged down in all the mud and got stuck. To add insult to injury, a tow truck had to get him out.God dont like ugly Darrell! No Boogity Boogity this day

DID YOU KNOWyou could go Skinny Dipping with Tiny LundTiny Lund was as well known for his practical jokes as he was for his fierce racing. He was a large man with an even larger sense of humor. After a race at the Wisconsin track, Red Farmer, Tiny Lund & a few other guys were hanging out at the Howard Johnsons pool. Red decided to go to his room around midnight when the skinny dipping started.Well, Red is in his room asleep when he hears a knock on the door. Red sleeps in his birthday suit. He opens it to see Tiny standing there. Tiny grabs Red, drags him to the pool and throws him in. If Tiny Lund wanted you to go skinny dipping then skinny dipping you would go! Now you know the rest of the story but betcha didnt know that

Old Darrell Waltrip gets beat by exhaust pipes litterly

Stock Car Racing History

Back in the early days Darrell Waltrip was racing modifieds. He was getting beat week in and week out by this one teams cars. Darrell called them skeeter cars cause they buzzed by so quick all he could hear was the buzzing sound they made. This teams car looked like theirs and they could never figure out what those guys were doing to beat them so bad every week. They just knew those guys were cheating on the engines somehow.Well, they hatched a plan. Darrell decided to buy one of the old cars from this team. They were thinking they could tear the engine apart, figure out where they were getting beat and use that to beat those guys. Well, they tore the engine apart & found nothing out of the ordinary. What they did find though was that the roll cages were made out of exhaust pipe and not the mandatory pipe. The exhaust pipe was hundreds of pounds lighter. So they thought they were getting beat by a cheater who souped up his engine & it was because the other car weighed hundreds of pounds less!Wonder how old jaws felt when the secret was finally found out.

Being the happy person i am today over the good good news i was told i will tell yall the answer it was curtis turner --he was leading the race on lap 181 when there was an 18 car pileup behind him--all but him was out of the race so he was only finisher out of 24 starting and 19 running at lap 181 when the wreck happened Pete Banchoff said:
Wow Johnny, I would have to step aside and turn that one over to Bobby or Jim Streeter. I may have to play 20 questions with you on that one.lol I'll study on it though.

Another dream came crusing through last night

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

As I went to bed last night I had no idea that this would come up in my dream, but now it seems my dream has a problem with the lil coupe in as much as its another old flame from my past trying to weasel its way into the spotlight.
You see I knew this one from the 60's but she fell out of the limelight shortly after Woodstock. You see she had to show her stuff too when a version of Woodstock came to middle Ga in the 70's. She let her hair down and went down hill from there. Moonshine was found in her possession but it was never clear exactly who brought it to her.
A couple of old suitors tried to romance her later on but she didnt take the bite. The story in my mind rolls on to the present and now she has become a part of my present and hopefully the future. My wife is still looking at me with that I cant believe you look but hey, lookers like this only comes along every so often so im gonna take the bait so to speak and run with it.
I saw her a few months back and she was kinda ragged looking and sure needed cleaning up and getting a trim at least. A face lift would really help the old gal out too. But you just watch and see, if I go and she gets all spruced up there will be a covey of guys there wanting to get their photo taken with her. But you know thats alright because she deserves the exposure. I tell you what, as this dream moves forward I will keep you posted on how the dream just may turn into reality for me and maybe you. Come back soon and see if any updates are posted, I am ---------------------memories

do you know where last grand national dirt track race was run??

Stock Car Racing History

The Last Dirt Track DanceRichard Petty made history when he won a 200-lap race at the half-mile State Fairgrounds Raceway in Raleigh on September 30, 1970. It was the 42nd race of the season, the 989th major event in NASCAR history, and the last dirt-track Cup race in NASCAR ever sanctioned.Petty, driving his familiar No. 43 Plymouth, started sixth, and led one time for 112 laps to post the victory. It was the 15th win of the season and 117th of his career. As he was in most areas of NASCAR racing, Petty was one of the tour's best dirt-track racers. But the Petty listed No. 1 in the NASCAR record book under"most dirt-track wins" is Lee Petty, who got 43 of his 54 career victorieson dirt-tracks in the '50s and early '60s.REAL RACE FANS KNOW THAT Dirt's For Racing, Asphalt's For Getting There. That oughta make'em race on dirt at least twice a year!you dont have to look this up because i already did

a short tale from long past

Stock Car Racing History

Here's how you drive it - A Smokey Yunick TaleAt a dirt-track race in Savannah, Georgia, in 1953, I had two Hudson Hornets for Herb Thomas and Dick Rathmann. Thomas won the pole, but Dick was having problems.I kept telling Dick he was lifting too late in turn 3.Finally, he gave me his helmet and said to show him.We climbed in the car. He had no seat, helmet, or harness. I told him to touch me when we got to the point where he lifted going into (turn) 3. We went into the turn wide-open, and he never touched me. We spun around the biggest telephone pole Id ever seen and left the doors handle on the driver side sticking in the pole. The only thing Dick said was Dont stall it."
