JEFF GILDERS BIRTHDAY!!

General

Does this mean that birthday boy is now a certified "Vintage Racer"? Some where I remember reading that greatness is most always associated with time on the job. This being true then I am sure that Mr Gilder is rated up there among the best. This is only the first one of the rest he will have through life. H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y fellow racer.

a winner then and a winner now---

Madhouse II

General

this weekly show is kinda entertaining but from what i saw in the show was a little bit rich for the average "JOE" because those shops smelled money and the actions of some were just plain stupid on the track, but that aside the players were intense in the game of short track racing along with the fans.It had a lot of old school values in it along with a mix of modern color. I had to go back several times and relook at some segments of the show. If anyone is interested in seeing it in a slower atmosphere you can go to this link and watch the different shows or segiments more closely--- http://www.history.com/video.do?name=Madhouse&bcpid=57008462001... hope this helps and enjoy because this is what builds -------------memories

The Perfect Storm.........Stock Car Style

you are definetly having to much fun with your cars sir bad part of it all is you are darn good at presenting something in a whole new scale of realism -- i told you already about taking your creations out on the busy street as in one of your previous shots to maybe get disarrayed but all in all you are in a league all by yourself

Jeff if im not mistaken I think this could be turned into a weekly draw crowd here on R/R --just look at the traffic it has generated so far and with a little stirring of the pot from our northern players and the flinging of firewood from our southern players this could indeed become a mecca of interest. It could well need its own little corner here to be easy for all to keep up with .No names are needed because the players here know who you are and I await the next segment of this broil that is the center of attention. So without further ado lets get back to the artistic flair each of the players here offer and keep this going because admittedly each of you know deep down you are creating many many more memories that will be retold to others in the future. But told with your own flair that you enjoyNext weeks show is coming so watch it,tape it,or if you miss it go to this link and watch it carefully http://www.history.com/video.do?name=Madhouse&bcpid=57008462001&bclid=53960801001&bctid=53885072001 and then come back with your variation of the facts, the audience awaits ...but remember in the end you are creating more----------------------------memories

All Jacked Up…and Standing Tall On MY Soap Box!!!

Uncategorized

Awww the heck with it,Jeff you have struck ma very sensitive nerve here in this little message. To start with lets not use how many races they won because thats not fair to todays wantabe racers, and I will use that very loosely. I welcome any of the racers of today to come on down and lets run a few races in the equipt that they ran in back in the day. First off no power steering and with steam rollers on front and rear on dirt,no follow the leader paved track and oh by the way these tracks were then and today too short tracks. Yup we gonna run five nites,no lets make it six nites a week and on sun afternoon. Now you think of this, the cars back then were kinda drafty from the engine so its kinda hot in the car so be sure and bring you a rag to chew on . Second now these tracks are kinda dusty so you need to get a pair of googles to maybe keep the dirt out of your eyes. Now you say Ralph is not a racer? really!! Seems to me the driver of that number 8 Chevelle was named Earnhardt and he had a boy that was kinda doing a real good job of getting around a track too several nites a week and on sunday. We drove cars todays racers would frown on and maybe a couple of three would be able to muster the effort to run a 100 lap race oh lets say three nites a week and usually on sunday too,oh by the way we worked on our cars between races because there was no pit crew to speak of much less a hauler with tools in them. The back lot at the motel or the lot at the truck stop or if you were lucky a guy let you use the lift in a service station was our shop and motor home to rest in ,what rest i say. Ask Jim Streeter or Eddie McDonald , or Harold Fountain how we fared on this.. No such luxurys were there,Richard Petty was out in the dirt working on their cars readying them for the next race.So next time one of you wantabe racers care to get up on that little box you call a command center ,on a short track car even, let us know and one or maybe a score of us old farts as we sometimes are called Will open tow to where you are so you wont be exhausted when race time comes and take a ricktey old modified and kinda run around the track so you can follow us and maybe just maybe you can get the message. Oh and by the way Ned Jarrett was more the man then than any of these newby will ever dare think of being. Oh by the way Jeff Gilder did it too with the knowledge of old school guiding him and poor ole Tim well Tim did it with sheer guts and determination taking a mopar and putting it where he did up front race after race --- WE know what we did, will you ever??? my message dont need no approval its got guts behind it Johnny Mallonee "77"

Ned Jarrett

Uncategorized

this should be a great show with ned and jeff ned was and still is quite a unique person in racing, soft spoken and very knowledgeable of racing back in the day--i think the most excited ive ever saw him was when dale won daytona he was an excited man that afternoon and a proud papa. i think he will tell you the same stories others have told in the past but with a different twist and clarity to them that will have you saying ---i didnt know that. he raced when you were a real man to even finish much less win the races they won--very few if any of todays drivers could endure the test of survival that was there each race

i dont think anyone else has achieved this in grand national/sprint cup--he was never out of the top five in points as long as he was running full time in nascar

Setting around a camp fire sort of

Uncategorized

You ever went camping and everyone will be setting around a campfire telling stories and swapping tales? Then someone will without thinking toss a pine comb into the fire, well it pops and cracks and blows a few sparks out into the circle, but everyone laughs and says better not do that again or someone will get burnt.Well then someone throws a piece of pine in the fire and that starts a smokey situation and everyone is annoyed by it.Now everyone is off the goodtime feeling that was being enjoyed by everyone and now they fussing at whoever caused the ruckus and some hard feelings are among the group. If you havent grasped the drift of this little tale you are not in the fire light but if you see where this is going then think about what I said.Fun times are all around us and lets be friends and enjoy each others stories and photos we cherish, dont go poking the fire or throwing nasty things in it or you may get accidently burned by the sparks that fly out of it.Enjoy our times, enjoy our country, enjoy our fabulous organization we have here but please lets enjoy what we have. Before you found R/R what did you have, nothing like what you have now so please "LETS JUST GO RACING"

East Coast Flatheads thank everyone at the Rock

this i think is part of the ultimate goal that R/R is shooting for,a place for all to be involved not only to race but to just hang out, meet old and new people, show your ware, flex your muscles(the car now only), have a great car show and show the world what real racecars look like up close and personal,--oh yeah "touching cars is permitted" thats what really creates ------------------------------------------memories Tommy E Hussey said:
Jeff, there too as Ronda said I came down with my 1968 Mercury Cyclone and it is not a true race car but I had a hoot! Everyone that was associated with the day in any way went out of their way to make it an awesome day. I had a blast on the track and I had not been on the Rockingham track since "open house 1976, then 1977". I would love to bring my car and spend more time on the track. I am new on racers reunion and am not trying to be pushy in regards to opinions. I am unsure if is okay for me to continue correspondence on the stock car racing part as my car is not a true race car. I took it down to Darlington for the Historic Racing Day so I am just getting involved but excited and anxious to be part of the great events you all are trying to schedule. Would there be possiblity getting access to the track not on race day but a scheduled day for all classes of vintage racers to come and play, race, and have fun? That way would not interfere with so much scheduling of regular racing and all of vintage guys would get their opportunity to run more. I saw two guys putting on a show in my rear view mirror. It was worth being there. Great Day. Thank you for the invite. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

I had a very full vintage racing day today........

you sir definitely need to get out more often. you have went to great extremes her to portray yourself as being at one track when indeed you are truly at another, and also anyone taking their vintage pickup out and using it as a tow vehicle to pull a racecar in this traffic you show in your picture are truly a brave person indeed --also you were in violation with the Ford because you were not using your widow net or hans device as shown in the picture.Otherwise you have staged a great piece of history there with your vehicles and photography, keep it up because things of this manner enjoyed by most if not all here they help us remember all those forgotten----------------------------------------memories
