Goat Rodeo for Tuesday January 28th Cancelled
Administrative
Have to heard the goats in, huh?
Very nice history on this race!
Yeah it was actually a cream color, but the restorer painted it white. Pure white on cars didn't come out until the mid 50's and this car was last raced by Gober around 52'(ish). However, he done a heck of a job restoring the car from sitting for decades, and I think it looks great!
That's right! A now third Gober Sosebee racecar has been restored by Bud Layton of Cartersville Ga. This car is a white/black #50 with a chrome dash! The story behind the dash was that back in the early 50's, Gober was transforming it from one of his racers to a street rod for his wife, Vaudell, who is a volunteer at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. The car was then wrecked, then turned into a sugar car before Vaudell could drive it. When Mrs. Sosebee drove up to the museum today, we had the car covered in our "winner's circle" at the museum. As she was walking up to the door, I called to her that we had something to show her. That's when we pulled the cover and her eyes lit up. She was at a loss for words, and probably a few tears of joy. She climbed inside and checked out her chrome dash. Then one of Sosebee's sons, Brian was present to take his mother for a test drive.
For a cold day in North Georgia, many warm-hearted folks, certainly made the day for a sweet lady!
And with the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame CEO, Gordon Pirkle.
And the car during it's racing days. Note that the black car below is the three time modified winner at Daytona which is on display inside the museum.
And I still want a Petty cowboy hat! haha.
Back in 2008 at Chicagoland, the week of the 50th Anniversary of Petty's first race, during driver intros, they all wore a Charlie One Horse Hat! pretty neat.
And when you win at Texas....
Talking about restrictor plates....itiskind of strange that even though NASCAR distributesevenplates....that they have officials guard the toolbox at all times. They are all in a individual numbered drawer from what I heard.
Like you said, I'm not putting down NASCAR or Austin Dillion. I'd like to see both succeed. It's just that in my opinion....NASCAR is going to help car #3, atleast at Daytona.
Cool story Johnny. I hate to say it, but this is exactly what happened last year with Danica. First time in a Cup car at that track and she gets the pole at 196 mph and change. In fact, it was one of the fastest laps since the input of restrictor plates. Before then, the pole would be somewhere around 194-195 mph.
I think this year, with all the haters saying Austin doesn't deserve the 3, should be retired, etc NASCAR wants to show that the #3 can get it done. Maybe a 'tweaked' plate?
Just my opinion on the matter.
I wish that I could have gotten up there to see the originals. For this list....there is too many in the current era. 6 cars represent 2000 to present. I wonder, no hope, that they didn't take Red Byron's car out, owned by JB Day. They never should take out something from the guy who won the organizations first race and two championships.
And Bill Elliott will be testing alongside his son, Chase driving for JR Motorsports. Like Rusty, it is just for testing. It would be awesome if they brought back the 'legend's race' idea. Although after Larry Pearson's wreck a couple of years ago, I doubt it.
