Chase Elliott to Race Full Nationwide Season for JR Motorsports

Stock Car Racing History

It was announced today that my favorite up and coming driver, Chase Elliott will be driving all 33 races in the #9, sponsored by NAPA. (just for the record, I called that move in October, hehe) NAPA is a Georgia-Based company, as Chase is a Georgia driver. I hardly ever watch any of the races, let alone Nationwide, but every chance I get, I will turn it to the Nationwide race. Atleast he's not a cup regular riding around in the race. What I'm excited about is Daytona. It is dangerous, but he'll be racing with the best. One thing that I've pointed out to several friends today is that - Chase will bring NAPA more success than Micheal Waltrip could've ever dreamed of doing in his 12 year partnership!

Maybe now, I'll enjoy the NAPA commercials if Chase is singing "Napa Know How".

Can't wait for Daytona!

Article About Dick Trickle

Stock Car Racing History

A friend of mine on Facebook posted this. It is a rather long article, took me probably 15-20 minutes to read.....but well worth it! I knew who Dick Trickle was, but didn't know much about him. I know all to well with my Tuesday radio segments that history on the local division/short track drivers are sparse. This is a fantastic read if you have the time to learn more about not just the driving, but the life of Dick Trickle.

Handsome Harry Gant Celebrates 73rd Birthday January 10th at Motorsports 2014

General

I have always wanted to meet him! Like most from his era, I'm sure he's a down-home kind of guy.

WILL IT REALLY RETURN ?

Stock Car Racing History

I say let them run it! I like Dale, but by no means is he a favorite driver, nor the greatest of all time like a good 70% of 'fans' lead you to believe. Especially with almost 80 previous drivers to pilot a #3 in the past. Do you remember in 1993 - it was Petty's first season not in the driver's seat. He chose Rick Wilson to drive the STP Pontiac, except with #44. NASCAR 'recommended' that Richard bring back 43, and has stuck ever since.

I remember on various Facebook pages, when someone would post one of the 2014 paint schemes for Dillion, and especially when the rumor was announced......there were literally thousands of comments, most pertaining something like "Dale was the greatest racecar driver there ever was. I'll quit watching NASCAR", or my favorite. "Childress should be fined by NASCAR if he brings back 3. It's disrespectful!"

It's quite funny actually to read those comments, but in all reality......itISjust a number.

How long will it take?

Current NASCAR

Am really shocked that the Super Bowl is not on there. I'm not a football fan, but I've always been under the assumption that the NFL was more popular than NASCAR.

Exactly what I was thinking Tim! Last year, what better publicity for a women to win a pole in the biggest race of the year in one of the most popular forms of sports in America. It brought it to the attention to women, especially those who doesn't even know where Daytona International Speedway is!

The same will happen this year, you just wait! There's going to be a HUGE extravaganza if #3 wins the pole, let alone the race. NASCAR will have a majority of Earnhardt fans having a backlash saying that "it's disrespectful to Dale" and that Austin "doesn't deserve to be in that car" and so forth.

Oh well, I love to predict things!

Chase Elliott Sweeps the Snowball Derby!.....Wait Breaking news Elliott DQ'd

Stock Car Racing History

That's right Johnny. I have been keeping up with live updates from 5 Flags and most competitors do NOT think that Tungsten gave him the win; it was his driving. Especially after setting the all-time track record in qualifying. The only good side to this is that his team really didn'tcheat. It's not like his car was 100 pounds lighter that the others. I can say that he was DQ'ed for an unapproved weight. It's not like Junior Johnson and Waltrip having a lighter car and leaving a lead helmet in the car through tech, loading frame rails with BB's, etc.

Chase Elliott Sweeps the Snowball Derby!.....Wait Breaking news Elliott DQ'd

Stock Car Racing History

I'll also cover this Tuesday Night on 'Racing Through History', or the "Goat Rodeo". When I posted my topic on here about his sweep, that was before this was decided.

A basis on Tungsten - is similar to lead, but is 1.7 times more dense. Basically Chase's car weighed the same as others, but used less weight blocks. Most teams use 20 pound blocks of lead. The blocks used on Elliott's car was 36 lbs per block. Basically, they used less blocks to compensate the same weight as other competitors. The only reason that Tungsten is outlawed at the Snowball Derby is that it cost nearly 10 times more than lead. Track officials want to keep cost down for small teams. That makes sense, but weight is weight no matter what it's weighed down with. Rules are rules though. I'm still very upset with this decision. It was also brought to my attention that the 51 Team (Erik Jones, last year's winner and originally runner up for this year) told tech officials of this infraction.
