The #96 Die Cast cars are in and I'm pretty stoked!

Current NASCAR

Yup. That's how it got started, because they always drove on 9, so their car number naturally became 9. It was a combination of that and Bill's early idols, Jody Ridley, and his brother Biddle. Jody was known for driving a #98 for Bill's dad, and Biddle usually ran the 9. When All three were in the same race, Bill would let Biddle drive 9, and Elliott would either drive a #97, 94, or 99.

And about the street cars. I have heard that too. I have never gone in the yard because I have always had business in the shop, but from just glancing, there are probably 20-30, maybe even 35 Ford products. Every thing from Falcons (And lots of em') Cougars, Comets, Torinos, Mustangs, one or two Galaxies, maybe one Thunderbird (65?) See when they were all young, and George's supply business was his sole business, he had several old cars that he'd give the boys to tinker with. Bill had a 61' Starliner that was white with a red top and the car's name was "Purolator" in which was Bill's jalopy.

I didn't mean to high-jack your thread about your diecast, Will, sorry. lol

Cool. Yeah all the old muscle/street cars is now infront of Bill's shop, behind the OLD Coors shop, and adjacent to Ernie's shop if that makes since. The old building supply shop is still there but it is overgrown with kudzu.

Thanks Will.

Yes Will, that car used to be in our museum as we have 6 of Bill's cars in the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. That IS the chassis from 1983 Riverside, but the body is the next era of the Thunderbird. He won the Riverside race with what I call the "Boxy Bird" which looked like a shoebox. In 84', Ford introduced the new aero bird. The 1985 body was put on for Michigan I believe. Hope this helps.

What Can YOU Tell Me About the Nascar Roadster Division???

General

Here ya go Tommie...

" NASCAR heavily promotes its new Roadster division featuring chop-bodied convertibles. The first race scheduled at Daytona is cancelled due to work on the newly designed Beach-Road course. Other events are slated for the Broward Speedway north of Miami."

The original plans for NASCAR included three distinct divisions: Modified, Roadster , and Strictly Stock. The Modified and Roadster classes were seen as more attractive to fans. It turned out that NASCAR fans wanted nothing to do with the roadsters , which fans perceived as a Northeast or Midwest series. The roadster division was quickly abandoned.

Yes Johnny, sorta anyway. Some of the noses look like Indy cars or midgets, but then again, that was a popular change on Model T roadsters in the 50's. Was this a Nascar sanctioned race? If so where was it at?

Thanks

Thanks BB, this is what I think of as a roadster, when I get to the museum in the morning, I will get a picture of a picture of Lloyd Seay's roadster. At least maybe this will give people an idea of what to look for.

Here's something in writing I found..." The original plans for NASCAR included three distinct divisions: Modified, Roadster, and Strictly Stock. The Modified and Roadster classes were seen as more attractive to fans. It turned out that NASCAR fans wanted nothing to do with the roadsters , which fans perceived as a Northeast or Midwest series. The roadster division was quickly abandoned, while the modified division now operates as the Whelen Modified Tour . The Strictly Stock division was put on hold as American automobile manufacturers were unable to produce family sedans quickly enough to keep up with post-World War II demand."
