The windshields are made out of lexan which is a bullet proof form of plastic that does not crack. Almost as hard as Mikey's head. What a D. A.

Things sure did change after this race. I recall reading years ago that on many occasions that NASCAR would not check engines or weight after a race. This one did alot of damage to Petty Enterprises and pushed Maurice out the door.

I visited the musuem this August and the facility was in good order. It was clean and the lady working there was very nice. Any hardcore NASCAR fan should check it out.

Looking for Beltsville Speedway info
Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks
Beltsville was one of the faster short tracks on the Grand National circuit but the track did not have alot of banking. We were there one night during the mid 70's ad a car slammed into the guardrail right in front of us. This aggravated a hornets nest. They flew into the bleachers and stung a bunch of us. The track gave away free sodas to anyone that got stung.
The track met it's demise because of local residents complaints about the noise. After the track shuddered a shool for electrical engineering/ tech was put in it's place. I think the school no longer operates but I am not sure what is on that land right now.
