Open Participation/Everybody Post: Who Finished Last in the 1st Cup/GN/Strictlly Stock Race You Attended or Watched?

General

Dave, that would have to be Bill Champion in his own 68 Ford at the ''Rock'' in 1970...He crashed out after 3 laps. The first cup caution I ever witnessed...John searsfinished right ahead Bill... Fayetteville, N.C. S' Bunkie Blackburn did not fare any better in this race than he did in your first race... He finished just 3 positions ahead of Champion in a Tiger Tom Pistone car.

It being my first event at this level , I was estatic that the King won...In the Superbird no less.

Captain America

General

I remember the #47 Capt. America, loved the car!

Great info on the history of the Capt. America scheme, thanks for sharing that B.B..

I got to know Raymond in the early to mid 80's while at Ellington's in Wilmington..He wasowneda nice restaurant at Wrightsville Beach, N.C. at the time.. He would come by the shop and visit and go to lunch with us, after which we would listen to Paul Harvey on the ride back...After Paul Harvey was finished Raymond would take over leave us all in stitches...He even went to several races with us and was the catch can man on a couple of those races...

I always enjoyed Raymond and his stories.A very likeable guy with a tremendous sense of humor, he loved to laugh...Haven'tseen Raymond in 20 years but I do think that the last time I did see him, he was a grinnin'.

Anyone know of his status these days?

Did you ever see Richard Petty win in person?

General

The very first G.N. race I attended which was the 1970 Carolina 500 at Rockingham was won by the king in a Superbird...They were just coming off the Pete Hamilton victory at Daytona in the team Superbird.

Saw him win both 1971 races at the Rock in a 71 Plymouth..March 74' win at the Rock in a Dodge and both wins in 1976 in the Dodge. Was at the 1983 last Rock win also.

Also Charlotte win in 1975, boy was it hot that day andIcarried an 83 MPH speeding ticket home as a souvenier.

Saturday Night at Bowman Gray

General

I recognize Glen Wood and possibly see Charlie Sheen in the white shirt directly below the 20R.d The guy behind Fish does look alot like Curtis Turner with the always present sunglasses.

As far as having fun with this, here goes....

Although this was a long time ago and he was old then and I do not see him, I would think that the ageless senior troublemakerJunior Milleris in there somewhere. Heck, I might even venture to say that he caused it, he usually does...

Where are they today??

General

Jim,

I am like you, thatdoes not favorGary at all..Gary was alittle on the ''lean'' sideat that point in time..

It looks more like Bobby Jones than Gary Nelson andI think that Bobby was still at Jr. Johnsons, not sure when he left..Dont remember Bobby working for Digard either.

Where did she go

General

Very interesting info Dave. I have never ''bothered'' to learn anything about that aspect of racing.

Thanks for sharing that.

I haven't known a race queens name since the days of Bill Broderick and the Union 76 racestoppers.. Be Bop Hobel and Patti Huffman (Petty).. After those two the rest have been just a bunch of pretty faces..Although I must confess I do not spend much time looking at their faces.

The Sprint girls are at the tracks but I do not think that they are as predominately in the spotlight or as promoted as the racestoppers once were... I could not come close to identifying a Sprint girl, unless she put her uniform back on, lol.
