Saturday Night at Charlotte and Monday Morning on ABC

Current NASCAR

Speaking of retaliation, next year's Cup races will again include Danica Patrick's old Indy Car nemesis, Sam Hornish, taking over the #9 Richard Petty Motorsports ride.

Do you suppose Ricky Stenhouse will be waiting in the wings if Hornish ruffles the Pony's sparkles?

Current NASCAR

Respect you Legend and couldn't disagree more with your racing opinions above. Keselowski went to great lengths on the track to intentionally try to wreck both Hamlin and Kenseth.

NASCAR years ago set a precedent for what to do when a driver does an imbecilic thing such as Keselowski did on pit road, endangering not only other drivers, but crew members and other bystanders.

A look through their records will reveal to NASCAR that they had no problem at all SUSPENDING "Terrible Tommy" Ellis for hitting hitting former Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Bill Dennis from behind on pit road post race following a Late Model Sportsman race at Langley Field Speedway in Hampton, Virginia. At least that same penalty, already established by prior NASCAR precedent, should apply to Bad Brad.

I think Kenseth had every reason to go after Keselowski. He'd already intentionally run Kenseth up the track and into the wall (surely you saw that - it was clear as day), then slams him on pit road with no belts or HANS. Stupid, stupid, stupid move by Keselowski.

I say sit Keselowski down for Talladega at a minimum.

And, where WAS Tony's head after what he has been through?

The football over run was ridiculous.

Legend, hope you quickly feel better.

Hope you are already feeling better, Tim. We always need a little vinegar thrown on that tossed salad of Racing Through History "celebrity" studio panelists!

AND IN THIS CORNER YOU HAVE ----------- WHO?

General

I was pretty dissed about the telecast being bounced around. First the scroll on the ABC college game said the race would begin on ESPNews, then transfer. Not so. They kept showing football. The morning's paper said the internet ESPN3 showed the beginning. Don't know how to access that. I went to NASCAR.com and saw 20 laps had been run.

Guess what? ESPN loses NASCAR after Homestead and could probably care less. NASCAR's TV contract should have been stouter. Reminded me of old times when Humpy and Bruton would black out Charlotte in the local market like thieves.

I think young Brad might have might have sullied his mess kit last night. He looked pretty stupid. Good takedown by Matt for an old man. And track security and local gendarmes were where while all this was unfolding.

Brad & Penske deserve a SUBSTANTIAL penalty for hitting cars on pit road. Imagine after the NY mess with Tony if a bystander like an official, crew member or media member had been killed or injured. We could have just padlocked the track gates. Surely the Captain has already had a heart to heart. The kid could have put our sport at severe risk last night with his intentional after race actions.

Life's Changed for REX WHITE

Stock Car Racing History

This Rex White article ran in this morning's Charlotte paper and via the That's Racin' website:

NASCAR legend Rex White: Hall of Fame selection changed my life

By Bill Kiser

David T. Foster, III - dtfoster@charlotteobserver.com

CONCORD, NC Rex White didnt expect his life to change very much after he was named to the 2015 induction class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

But White quickly discovered that wasnt going to be the case.

Everythings changed nothings normal, White said during a press conference before the start of Saturday nights Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Its unbelievable how my popularity increased. The fan mail has been unbelievable. I get quite a bit of mail from Germany now. I get mail from Afghanistan, the soldiers wanting autographs and pictures. A lot more people want to talk to me for some reason.

White, the 1960 NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) champion, was one of five drivers named to the Hall of Fames 2015 class in May, joining Bill Elliott, Fred Lorenzen, and the late Wendell Scott and Joe Weatherly. All five will be inducted into the Hall in January.

Both White and Elliott, along with members of Lorenzens, Scotts and Weatherlys families, were honored during the Bank of America 500s ceremonies.

In addition to his championship, White won 28 Grand National races, 36 poles and finished in the top 10 in 163 races between 1956-1964 before he stepped away from the sport at age 35.

I didnt have the money to sponsor a car its very simple, said White, who had NASCAR career earnings of $233,511. I went to work for a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Forest Park, Ga., and started making more money than I did racing. I just never got back in it.

White still follows the sport his favorite driver is rookie Kyle Larson, he was a fan of Mark Martin before he retired, and likes what Chase Elliott is doing but has an old-school attitude about how the series champion should be determined.

I still like the old system, but maybe thats normal, White said. But right now, (the Chase for the Sprint Cup is) so close and so tough, I cant stand it.

Stock Car Racing History

Found an August 5, 1976 Danville Bee piece about Monk Tate being injured at Fayetteville's Cumberland Internationalthat mentioned Jimmy Griffin driving the 3va at South Boston:

TATE NOT READY --

It's still some three weeks before Monk Tate will be ready for Late Model Sportsman action. "I just got back from the doctor today" said Tate in a telephone conversation yesterday. "I'm coming along real good but he says it'll be about three weeks before I can race again." Tate was injured in a racing accident on July 5th in Fayetteville, N.C., and has replaced himself with young Joe Millikan, the often-said Richard Petty protege. "Joe will drive the car at South Boston Saturday night," Tate said. "He's doing real good with the car."

Millikan will be joined by other top standouts as Tommy Houston, a winner over Butch Lindley at Kingsport, Tenn., last weekend, and Roy Hendrick, Bubba Tatum, Phil Morgan, Sonny Hutchins, Sam Ard, Danny Collins, Joe Falk, Ray Hendrick and Jimmy Griffin. Griffin is scheduled to drive the Jimmy Scott "Bumblebee" 3VA car while Hutchins will drive the Garland Ricketts Cougar if his own car cannot be repaired in time. Collins, a consistent winner at Beltsville, Md., Manassas and Richmond will be in a Bobby Allison Chevelle. The feature goes for 150 laps and pays $1,200 to the winner.
