LET ME TRY THIS AND SEE IF IT FLYS

Stock Car Racing History

Not mentioned in the report above, but highlighted in The Charlotte Observer coverage is this interesting statement:

Nationwide teams must use the Camaro in the series' three restrictor-plate races next season, but may run the Impala in other races while they transition to the new car, series director Joe Balash said.

Your Ubatuba idea has possibilities for NASCAR. I've heard several places that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing down in Daytona.

Yep, we got company, all right, as you have observed. Always spying on us.

Probably make an unannounced shop visit with new templates.

Hey, a bronc is kinda like a pony, ain't it?

Maybe we could call it the Big Bad Bronc Series (for pony cars).

The BBB Series. Probably get that fella in Franklin to give us some plugs. Whatcha think? Boogity, boogity, boogity!

How much should I charge NASCAR for this idea? They've stolen several others in the past.

The little Pony Cars will come in handy when NASCAR moves the Nationwide Series back to the short tracks where it belongs.

Mustangs, Camaros.... now if we can resurrect some defunct brands, we could have a Cougar, Firebird, Barracuda and all the old pony cars. Might rename the Nationwide Series the NASCAR GT or Grand American, lol!

A Really FUNNY 1963 NASCAR Story

Stock Car Racing History

Back in early February, our RR member Richard Gouldman posted a photo of the 1963 Ford prepared for Richmond driver and NASCAR modified star, Ted Hairfield to drive in the 1963 Daytona 500. That car was sponsored by Richmond's Commonwealth Ford and the car prepared at the dealership.

I remembered hearing a story from the late Kenneth Campbell at Richmond International Raceway about a strange incident preparing this car, but had no recollection of the details.

Well, yesterday, our RR member, Woody Delbridge alerted me that new RR member, Stanton I. Cottrell had made a post telling the true story of the incident. It is one of the funniest racing stories I have ever read. Mr. Cottrell promises he'll also follow-up with a true story concerning the 1963 Daytona 500.

This ranks with the Willie Quattlebaum story for humor. I encourage you to click on the link I am posting below that will take you to Richard Gouldman's original photo post and the discussion thereafter, including the new update by Mr. Cottrell.

I shall not spoil the story by telling any of it. I just want to be the messenger to get you to it and thank Richard and Woody for continuing something Mr. Cottrell spotted.

Have a wonderful racing laugh and learn a little 1963 NASCAR Grand National history at the same time by clicking the link below:
