Trailer for On Any Sun day - You'll see McQueen at the End:
That was a GREAT movie, Jim! Motorcycles. Never hear anybody discuss it. Certainly better than any stock car movie I ever saw.
Let's don't ever forget how the way was paved for Smoke & Carl to enjoy the limelight they enjoyed:
Atlanta was where the huge controversy took place when NASCAR told Junior to never bring it back. To my knowledge and eveything I can find on the car, that was the first, last and only appearance for the "Yellow Banana."
The Junior Johnson built 1966 Ford Galaxie "Yellow Banana" at speed in Atlanta's 1966 Dixie 400 with Fred Lorenzen at the wheel.
Was in the 10th grade World History Class of Mrs. Kraft at Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, VA. We had a PA system that never came on except at the beginning of school in the morning and suddenly it came on with a radio broadcast. Early that evening, I purchased my own portable Philco tv for my room with money I had saved on a paper route and working at an ice cream parlour. After the purchase that Friday night (it was a Friday) I rolled bandages with a church group for the Red Cross to send to our soldiers in Viet Nam. I was at my friend Bruce's house across the street on Sunday afternoon watching the live telecast of the jail transfer of Lee Harvey Oswald when Jack Ruby shot him. I later watched the 1969 moon landing that JFK had orchestrated on that same little b&w tv. I used that old Philco portable tv I bought on the evening of JFK's death until it finally expired in the mid 80s, after many moves, while living in of all places.... Dallas, Texas.
Used to watch James in modifieds when I was in college and would go to the Sanford, NC dirt track in the spring. He and Glenn McDuffie in Late Models were the kings while their brothers were off on the GN circuit. That was the first place I ever saw a converted school bus used for a hauler.
I would have said Ray Hendrick, but I was in a heat race in 1973 in Fayetteville, NC at Cumberland County asphalt track with Ray. I wasdriving our Wilson dirt car after it rained out in Wilson. Can you get lapped 10 times in a ten lap heat? I think I was. Always been a dream to bang against Curtis & Little Joe on dirt, preferably at the Wilson dirt track that Joe & Paul Sawyer co-promoted..
