THE DEFINITION OF CLOSE - Thought that only counted in horse shoes and hand grenades

Stock Car Racing History

I read somewhere yesterday that the 1959 Daytona finish was actually closer and now NASCAR is saying this is the closest finish since the introduction of electronic timing and scoring.

Racing Through History Scheduled Guests

Administrative

Just want to put the word out about upcoming guests scheduled to appear on the Tuesday night show.

FEBRUARY 23RD: Bobby and Donnie Allison. Both have agreed to appear and, with the 2016 Daytona 500 in the rearview, we'll talk about the impact of that 1979 finish on the sport. We'll also discuss the contributions for both Allisons to the sport. Should be a great evening. Many thanks to Bonnie Allison-Farr for her assistance in arranging these appearances.

MARCH 1st. Brownie King, a true pioneer in the sport who contributed so much to the growth of the sport. Brownie is someone I am around many times and he is someone I consider and great friend. Should be another great evening.

I am working on other true pioneers and contributors to the sport for future shows. I can't believe the reception I'm getting when I speak with these guys about the show. RacersReunion is well known within the historic racing group of folks. I am having the time of my life.

Oh, and Jeff has indicated that people go to the home page to read my Legendtorials which have been missing this year up until last week. Upon further investigation, I have learned that people read those so they can throw tomatoes at me when I go out in public. That's alright though, because I like tomatoes and they are sure expensive to buy.

See you all (I hope) on Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

A Daytona 500 without Jeff Gordon

Stock Car Racing History

Dave, I agree with most everything you said (surprise, surprise as Gomer would say). However, as to Richard working his way up I think that was more Lee keeping him out until he was 21 and then putting him in convertibles. The fact that Richard ran all the dirt tracks and short tracks until NASCAR booted those to the side should be a point in his favor, as if he needs me to defend him. I especially like your last sentence.

Take care my friend. We want ole Dave around for many, many more Daytona 500s

A Daytona 500 without Jeff Gordon

Stock Car Racing History

There was no Petty or Gordon in the 1965 Daytona 500. That was the last, and only time, until this Sunday. Great read Patrick. There may be hope for you yet!!!!

NASCAR Hall of Fame Member, 1960 Grand National Champion, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever encounter, will join us on Tuesday, February 9th, for Racing Through History and hear about racing on the beach, racing on the big track, and generally anything else Rex may wish to talk about. We are pleased as well as honored to have him as a guest on the show.

I'm sorry I can't be there Alex. I had such a great time last year. I would love to do the Back to the Roots events but it just can't happen this year. Maybe next! You have fun, and send pictures.

Racing Through HIstory-February 2, 2016

Administrative

I hope all of you will join us tonight for the Racing Through History show, 7:00 p.m. ET. I'm not sure what the rest of the crew has planned for the show but I want to tell you what will be going on with The Legend's portion tonight.

Phaedra Lee, co-founder with Zetta Baker of Back to the Roots, will be on the air and will explain what the organization is all about and how it came to be. Phaedra is very passionate about the racing history as am I and most of RR members. It is easy to hear the passion in her voice as she talks about the Back to the Roots organization.

Bob Hissom, one of the hardest working individuals in the area of racing history, and someone who refuses to accept any credit for all his efforts with the North Carolina Auto Racing Museum in Mooresville, and all of his other efforts in so many areas of racing history, will be here to tell us about all the events coming up for the Back to the Roots organization in Daytona in a couple of weeks.

Both Phaedra and Bob work hard, along with Zetta Baker, to preserve what all of us here on this site hold so dear. Join us at 7:00.

Tommie Clinard

General

I am certainly sorry to hear this, but thanks for the heads up Johnny. Tommie is one of those individuals who adds a great deal to a person's life just by his friendship. I wish him well. Johnny, if you have a good phone number for the family, please let me know. As for you, stay warm, stay safe and God bless.
