NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction

Current NASCAR

Tonight, in Charlotte, five new members of the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be "inducted" into the questionably designated "Hall of Fame". While many of those inducted so far are most worthy of that honor, while a few were inducted FAR ahead of the time they should even have been considered, two of those going in tonight deserve the honor to the fullest. Bobby Isaac and Curtis Turner were both a large part of NASCAR's glory days as some folks like to call those halcyon days of yore.

Having watched both of these men race over the years, I have no doubt of the impact of both on the sport. Impact for the good of the sport. In spite of the ban of Curtis Turner for those four years, when he returned, so did many fans who had missed the antic, on track and off, of the handsome driver. As for Bobby Isaac, thanks to Larry and JoAnne Regan who worked with K&K Insurance on the team (Larry in the pits and JoAnne as the K&K Insurance Dodge Girl) I got to know Bobby well, shy though he was. Sitting in the back of the box truck hauler with him one day, I believe at Augusta Raceway, I learned just how dedicated he was to the sport.

So, congratulations to all the inductees, but especially to Curtis and Bobby. Your addition to the Hall of Fame, both of you, along withthe other true champions of the sport, give meaning to the glamorous facility which otherwise is an empty building in Charlotte.

Film to document the Life of RacersReunion® Friend The Late Ron Pestana

Administrative

Ron impressed me a great deal when he came all the way from California for the RacersReunion event at Columbia Speedway. When we did the track walk on Thursday evening I, along with several others, had the pleasure of walking around the track with Ron as we all exchanged racing stories. Ron was as personable a guy as I have ever met. All those who knew him, if only casually, lost a friend. Those who were truly close to him lost a part of their lives when Ron passed. God bless his memory and legacy, both to music and racing.

Special Guests for Tuesday Night Racing Through History

Administrative

Just a "heads-up" for everyone so you'll know what's happening with the usual "Legendtorial" Segment of the Rodeo on Tuesday nights. Please note the following:

Tuesday, January 5, 2016: Movie Producer, Ken Moore, Producer of, among other movies, "A Race With Destiny" which concerns what was and what could have been in Augusta, Georgia. Ken will talk about a very special event coming up in Augusta on Friday evening, January 8, 2016.

Tuesday, January 12, 2016: Little Red Vogt, son of NASCAR pioneer and legend, Red Vogt. Red, as a teenager, was actually in the room at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach when NASCAR was being formed. We'll get some inside perspective of those eventful meetings.

Tuesday, January 19, 2016: Bill Blair, Jr., who attended the very first Strictly Stock Racing in Charlotte in June of 1949, will tell us about that race, leading up to, during, and after the race. Also, as it is coming up on the anniversary of his fathers win in the 1953 Beach Race, we'll cover that as well. Bill is planning on taking that winning 1953 Oldsmobile to Daytona in February for the festivities.

I expect each one of these interviews to be outstanding, not because I'm doing them, but because the guests will be given the floor to tell the stories in their own words. A little trick I learned from Pete McCormack with HBO Canada. Much more interesting. I hope each of you will find time to listen and I hope you are going to enjoy the interviews as much as I have enjoyed talking to each of these individuals, at length, to set up these shows.

Live Radio Saturday morning, January 2, 2016/The Legend

Administrative

GOOGLE OR OTHERWISE GO TO WKTE.COM to find the broadcast. Using 1090.com is a mess and my virus scan picked it up as a threat. Hope you'll join us this morning.

Live Radio Saturday morning, January 2, 2016/The Legend

Administrative

Just a note for any of you who may be interested. I am scheduled to be a guest on the Benny Huff Saturday morning radio show. We will discuss efforts to preserve an accurate account of racing history and we are expected to talk a little about Marvin Panch. If anyone wishes to listen, in the Thomasville, NC area, the station is WKTE, 1090 AM. On line listeners can go to 1090.com and listen there. Benny tells me I will come on somewhere between 9:15 a.m. (ET) and 9:40 and will be given 15 minutes. Imagine that!!! Wordy me and 15 minutes.

On another note, I am working to present more historic information rather than my opinionated Legendtorials on the Tuesday Night Goat Rodeo (I don't like that reference). Getting some really great guests lined up and I hope you'll join us each Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Happy New Year!!!
