It was obvious also that they are really good race car drivers. There is an immense pool of young guns ready and eager to step up and take their turn.
More than likely they were starting to get a bit unhappy with the return for their dollar. A major sponsor for the entire 36 race season is hard to come by these days. With the negative publicity and lower attendance figures maybe they are taking advantage of the situation to get out of the contract. Nascar isn't the only ones to have the ole reliable " conduct unbecoming clause" in its contracts......
lol...Well spoken Perry. Not sure he's the king of anything except talking. Maybe the prince. And I'll bet he listens to "Little white lies" by Sammy Hagar and "Another Lie" by Dio.
Jim, So good to see the ole Mod Racer on here. Havent talked to you in awhile. Hope you are doing ok. I was looking on youtube the other day and found a 12 minute film of a modified race from the mid 50's. You can look it up by putting in 1950s stock car racing at Buffalo (NY) civic stadium. Maybe you can spot Tony's car. I found an old stock car pic # 9 from that era but don't think its Tony. I'll attach the pic and you can see if its him.
Lets all keep our hopes up.. Maybe the recent negative events might mean they owe us fans a favor or two. I wont hold my breath but maybe, just maybe.......
Good point Johnny, I stopped by at the dirt track in Ocala, Fla. Sat. night on the way back from North Georgia and sat in on the drivers meeting. They hammered the point that in case of ANY problem with the start that Both the 1 car and the 2 car would imed. go to the back of the pack. That way no accidently spinning tires to get the other guy sent to the back. All evening there were perfect starts all controlled by the flag man....
Tim, What a grand story and wonderful memory.....My wife and I left N. Georgia Sat. morning at 9 am and stopped at a couple dirt tracks in N. Fla. and arrived home in Orlando about 10pm Sat. night. How I wish I had remembered about this event and could have swung over and come down thru Augusta and hung out a bit. My bad, but there will be other times and opportunities .......
great stuff as always Dave. I had never heard about the connection with Don Branson. Just saw Jack for dinner couple weeks ago and expect to see him in a week or so. Will be sure to chat about the Don Branson connection.
