Stock Car Racing History
Tim, As far as I know they are/were two different tracks. Macon Speedway was actually two tracks with at least 3 different names and two different length's. The one mile track ran from 1920 thru 1939 and the 1/2 mile track ran from 1947 thru Oct. 27 1956 and was then known as Central City Speedway because it was located at the Fairgrounds in Central city park. It was located East of rt. 49, 11 and 29 which is now known as MLK,Jr. Blvd. and SW of I-16/404 which is now Jim Gillis Savannah Pkwy. alongside the Oocmulgee River.
The Middle Georgia Speedway is in Bryon, Ga. at I-75 just off Rt 41about 18 miles SW of the Fairgrounds in Macon. This track opened in 1966 and was also known as the location of the 1970's Atlanta Music Festival with Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers.
