Racing History Minute - September 10, 1978

Stock Car Racing History

Dave, Great report. Sonny must have been one heck of a man and a driver to sweep the weekend against that level of competition. Next time I see Dave Dion I'll ask him about E sr. getting a nudge from the senior section...old guys rule.....lol

Racing History Minute - September 10, 1978

Stock Car Racing History

I was just discussing this very race with my good friend Dave Dion a few days ago. Great timing on the story.

Wish I had been there to see Neil "protect" his turf with the rear slam.....have at it boys, even if in the pits. lol

Did He or Didn't He (intentionally bring out the caution to get his teammate in the Chase)? NASCAR Investigating Bowyer Spin

Current NASCAR

At least they have stood up and corrected a glaring deliberate fix. In my opinion as far as the re-start Carl, said the other car spun his tires and we will wait and see if there's proof of that. Its been a long time since nascar has had any logical rulings.....Maybe there's hope yet.

It was so obvious it was faked and planned as was the double pit stops. Another thing that bothers me is how can a great driver like JJ who is blessed with a great team and car manage to lose a wheel and hit the wall just to help Jeff Gordon. The whole deal is starting to smell a bit and if a couple large sponsors get edgy and pull back maybe they will get rid of the 1 1/2 milecookie cutter tracks and we can see some racing instead of a pre-programmed parade. jmo....

Racing History Minute - September 8, 1951

Stock Car Racing History

Tim, As far as I know they are/were two different tracks. Macon Speedway was actually two tracks with at least 3 different names and two different length's. The one mile track ran from 1920 thru 1939 and the 1/2 mile track ran from 1947 thru Oct. 27 1956 and was then known as Central City Speedway because it was located at the Fairgrounds in Central city park. It was located East of rt. 49, 11 and 29 which is now known as MLK,Jr. Blvd. and SW of I-16/404 which is now Jim Gillis Savannah Pkwy. alongside the Oocmulgee River.

The Middle Georgia Speedway is in Bryon, Ga. at I-75 just off Rt 41about 18 miles SW of the Fairgrounds in Macon. This track opened in 1966 and was also known as the location of the 1970's Atlanta Music Festival with Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers.

JOHNNY ROBERTS # 7 race car is "Missing In Action"!! "Lost Barn Find in the Making"?? "CAR #7, WHERE ARE YOU"??

Stock Car Racing History

A couple people that might know something is Don Stive's, a NJ hall of famer, Tom Couglin of Cambridge, MD. and used to be involved with the EMMR Museum or Ray Liss of NJ. All these guys were Chevy coupe guys with cars of that era. I raced against or bought a car from all of them and still talk to them from time to time. I will call them and see if they remember or know any info about this car. Give me a few days Dennis and I'll get back to you....

not a surprise at all. Hope he does well now that he seems to have turned his attitude around a bit. A darn good driver for sure.

NASCAR's Fall in Charlotte? Or, Has It Ever Been That Popular Here?

Current NASCAR

Dave, I really think it was all a big coincidence that the same teams, same place etc happened..lol..You have to realize who we are dealing with here. They are not smart enough to see all the connections and put it together just to sell tickets for next year. If they were maybe just a bit sharper you wouldn't see all those empty seats around.

My friend Dave....I feel your pain. get outta there while you still can or does the grandkids live there? That's the only reason I would stay somewhere that didn't support our sport any better than that. Maybe if they get enough harsh messages they will get on the ball.
