November 12 - This day in Petty history 11/12/72 - Richard finishes 3rd in the Texas 500 at Texas World Speedway.

11/12/92 - In one of the most head-scratching announcements made in the history of NASCAR, Rick Wilson is announced as the driver to succeed the King beginning in the 1993 season. The car number was changed for one year to #44.
