September 1 - This day in Petty history

Thought I might start something here that I also post at a Petty fans msg board. Seems to be a popular daily post there - a day in Petty history. Will do what I can to be consistent with posts. Thoughts?

9/1/58 - Jim Reed finished 32nd in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in his only Petty Enterprises start.

9/1/80 - Petty Enterprises manages a 9th place finish in the Southern 500 despite Richard starting the race, getting relief from Donnie Allison, then Donnie getting relieved by Neil Bonnett, and finally with the King getting back in his own car.
