Pete Sr. win at Langhorne Oct. 1955
Pete Corey Sr. wins at Langhorne Speedway Oct. 6 1955 in the modified division. Pete shown here with trophy sitting on a sprint car tire, not sure why the photo was taken with a sprint since he won with a 1939 or 40' Ford coupe. Photo borrowed from a 1950's N/E racing book.
In a way, he was kind of haunted by this victory. He was such a perfectionist that each year he went back to try it again and did not win again, it was so frustrating to him. I had the great pleasure of scoring for him during his last race at The Horne in 1975; yes, they still used manual scorers then. There will never be another like him, however, Peter, Jr. has continued on with his very own talents in racing and in life. I am so very proud of Peter, Jr. and wish him nothing but the best of luck on and off the tracks.
Good Story Rita, it's always fun to hear first hand witnesses to fill in the blanks of a picture. Pete Sr. came close a few times to winning at Langhorne, his best being 2nd to Frankie Schneider in 1960 or 61'. Pete Jr. said he had led many times after the 55' win but something always happened in the late stages of the race.Yes, Pete Jr. is definitely his father's son andis quite the ingenious car builder, and being he grew up at the track watching his Dad it's no wonder. He worked on my car quite a bit to get me running up front with old school equipment and eventually it paid off.
