No I will not take you up on your offer to ride in a dirt car. Not my cup of tea. I will say this, dirt is what got me interested in racing to start with. I remember walking down the street at night when I was around 10, down to a body shop that had a dirt track Camero they would keep outside on the trailer. I would climb up in it and and put the helmet and belts on and drive like a champion... at least in my imagination. I'd turn that wheel and swap those gears even though I couldn't reach the pedals. After winning the race I'd climb out and walk back home. To this day I remember the smell of the fluids and the tape wrapped steering wheel. Then I went to a Cup race, the Nation 500 in 1973, and I haven't cared for dirt track since. Grand National and Sportsman racing was more exciting to me, I think mostly for two reasons. 1, my Uncles were huge FoMoCo fans and would sit and talk for hours anytime we all got together. They had stacks of Stock Car Racing magazines that were treated with more care than the family Bible. 2, I was only 13 when I went to my first Cup race and the Flash and Glitter really "WOWED" me. It was like going to the circus. The anticipation leading up to the first Pace Lap when all the drivers waved to the fans and the first time they came by at speed, it was unforgetable. Seeing the very drivers I had heard so much about over the years... I still get chills thinking about it. Dirt has never done that to me. We all have good reasons for our likes and dislikes, but it's still racing. I hope you all can kindda relate to what I'm saying.Bumpertag in Gaffney, SC

I totally understand where you are coming from,I grew up in the era when dirt was king. That was in the early 50's going with my father to almost every race he went to that was even close to the time frame for me to get back to school. Most times there were two race cars with two trucks that went to the tracks and that way there was a car also so my ride home was there in case of trouble, and that happened every so often. But in response to you declining the ride offer sir I appreciate your unique choice of drink even though I offered it to you in a very high class place but my choice of where was not to your liking.Maybe you will make it down to A I R this year and go bench racing with some of the best there is (not was but is)but be careful who you race with, you may just get a little dusty in the end-----memories
