on the spot news
We know there were at least fifteen photographers and twenty five pit reporters at this weekends event in Occoneechee Orange Co. Speedway. And if memory serves me right at least four announcers were on site so I know the few of us that stayed home slaving in the hot sun trying to get an ole jalopy ready so they can have a turn at this reborn fun of "going round in circles" will get a full report along with enough pictures to almost be as good as being there. The only difference will be when some shower they wont stop stop the drain up with the extra dirt brought home for a souvenir. So with that said the few of us left behind will patiently set by the computer and wait for this report on the activities, if you didnt notice NASCAR did not hold a race this weekend so all could enjoy the festivities at Hillsboro NC!!
That was mighty nice of nascar not to have a race because of Hillsboro because that was a first class show
Thought you would appreciate that Leon ---you know they dont really do a lot for any cause on purpose very often but that worked out in Hillsboro's favor this time!!
oh boy i can see it now you gonna have to duck when you go in the bldg ----he he he------------------memories
Johnny,All I can say is...you missed a great show! From listening to story after racing story told by guys you know well...to seeing Rex white wheel a car around the Occoneechee Speedway....with Gene Petty..er.. ah.. I mean Hobby taking the #43 around form the pole....with a photo finish in the first segment of the Occoneechee "Twin 5's". I don't know if pictures and videos can do it justice...but we'll certainly try to paint the picture for you over the next few days. As you said....the best photographers (Ray Lamm, Ed Sanseverino...etc), reporters (RR.com),...announcers (Mike Sykes, Frank Craig...etc) were on hand...since nascar was off....to bring the Occoneechee show to those very unfiortunate..."few" who did not make the trip.
i commend you in your effort to enlighten those of us that could not make the trip to nc on the festivities and great pictorial that is forthcoming from the video dept. That i think is why this site will be around and growing bigger for many years to come
Ed you're bravest of the brave. Putting yourself at risk riding in that convertable....last year with the likes of Whitey Norman and Paul Lewis...and this year with Slick Owens...whew! Risking life and limb to bring us those great photos.
Johnny you did miss a part of history and get your jelopy ready and bring it next year and make your laps along with the racing legends of the Old Timers Racing Club at the famed one mile track. We would love to have you.
