MOST OF YOU HAVE WAITED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ---WELL NOW IS THE TIMERichard Childress Brings No. 3 Chevy Back to NASCARA black No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet will race in NASCAR this weekend for the first time since Dale Earnhardt ran his last Daytona 500 in 2001.If Dillon's career takes eventually takes him to the Sprint Cup Series I fully expect him to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 car then, too.
Doesn't matter to me if the 3 comes back or not.
ha ha ha always a man with a comment you and i will get along just fine i see
The 3 didn't mean anything to me. Black, green, purple, orange. Whatever Richard wants to do.Pete
to us in the south it was kinda special--you had a favorite up in the north you rooted for too
You're right, Johnny I did have favorites. I did root for a driver from Spartanburg, SC and one from Hueytown Alabama. I don't mean any disrespect, I just wasn't a fan of the black 3. In Cup, we didn't have too many cars and drivers from the north we could pull for. Michigan in particular, only Johnny Benson and Brad Keselowski have a cup win. We did fare better in the car owner category with Jack Roush and Harry Melling. But that's only in the last 30 years. I started rooting for David Pearson when he drove the 17 Holman Moody car (1968) and Bobby Allison when he drove for Mario Rossi #22 ('68 or '69 I think). We in the north had our favorite Southern teams and drivers because that's where cup racing was based.
no intent suspected sir--only a comment as you made --i pulled up into the north on occasions and ran, some tracks welcomed us others didnt but as you say that was "back in the day" now i dont think there would be a problem ---come on down to Augusta the 12th and enjoy the good ole days again
Johnny, I don't think there would be a problem today, either. In the old days any "intruder" had it rough from the grandstands and local drivers. You would be the best at seeing this because you drove. I just sat in the stands booing you LOL. I think it's great the reunions that are happening in your neck of the woods and if I had the means you bet I would go to Augusta and meet you. I would really enjoy that and enjoy a chat. Up in Michigan, the Jackson Motor Speedway reunion is really good and Toledo Speedway in Ohio has a good one, too. I've been to Jackson and really need to get to Toledo's. Other than that, it's hard to even get a former track champion list from tracks let alone a reunion. Our Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame is STILL looking for a permanent home!Augusta from what I've heard has a great event and I'm sure a lot of work and more important leadership happened to create this. I'm jealous .Your buddy in Michigan, pete
It would be thrill to be had if you made it--this years event may just be the best i think--we got a few ole rivals brewing in the wings , along with the Tim Leeming and myself are having--in columbia the exit to the pits are at turn 1 and thats where tim gave me the unguided tour of the pits just after he put that doughnut on left door and that neat left rear quarter fender kink and all that was over me passing him--now his version of passing is going one way while my version is going forward --ha ha ha well you can only imagine how this is going to play out in augusta --- sure wish you could come but maybe if we dont tear the place up to much maybe Dustin will get it on tape the the world will know--THE REST OF THE STORY--oh man ---------------------------memories
The 3 was Richards number at one time so I understand Austin wanting to run the 3. But Richard never drove a 3 stylized like the one Earnhardt Sr ran so I wish they would change that. Only an Earnhardt should run a car with a 3 with that particular design.
well the style was already taken by jr after his dad left us so its not like they got dibs on it--look how the 8 was designed then the 88 carried it on so true its an icon to a legend but the legends son carried the flair on with him so actually it a win win situation ------------------------------memories
