I'm pretty sure that picture was taken at the Speedrome in Grand Rapids, MI. I think that he was primarily a west sider but I am not sure.

Hey Mark, great to hear from you. Hope you're doing good. About Wayne Root, he was from Lansing and ran Supermodifieds on a regular basis at Dixie Motor Speedway, where I watched him race. I've seen pictures of him at the Speedrome and old Lansing Speedway and also driving at Berlin in the 8 car, but I'm not sure Bob Patterson owned the car at that time. The picture from Berlin looks like it's from after Jimmy Nelson was killed, maybe late '66 or '67. Wayne was kinda a mid pack racer when I saw him, but with Jim Nelson, Cy Fairchild, Sammy Sessions, Norm Rust, Butch Fedewa and Dick Carter racing, it was hard to win. I believe he was seriously injured in 1967 in a Supermodified and quit racing. I know he sold real estate as a real job and possibly moved out of state in the early 70's. The Supermodified site Jakessite thinks he's passed away, but they were going from old timers recollection and may be wrong. I was always a big fan of Waynes because he always raced clean and tried hard every week to win. I've been trying to locate family for the past 5 years so I can get him in the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame. So far, nothing but dead ends, but I won't stop until I get him in. Hope this helps.

Here's a pic of Wayne in the 8 car. Mark might be able to pinpoint the year, but it looks after 1965 to me.
