That was Delma Cowart on the other side of the flames. He had no where to go as he drove through the smoke and the crash. This was suposedly where they got it from for the Days Of Thunder movie.

I was there that day, had to be the most frightening crash i have e ver seen in person, you would not believe the fireball that erupted out of this, they have this sequnce in the video section.
